We often moan about the slowness of internet connections here which can be worse than dial-up. But today in Davao I am enjoying a high speed connection via Globe pocket wifi - twelve times faster than the average speed of our other connection which is Globe DSL.

Is that an upgrade you've had? I see the ping rate is abysmal but the actual download surprised me. Enjoy :)

I hope you don't play internet games, as that ping is totally useless.....

Ping rates here are often appalling and that nice and fast download speed lasted no more than a couple of hours. Unfortunately.

For some strange reason there mustn't have been anybody else online then..?

I might look into that, is that in dry weather?

Here in the UK my mobile is with Vodafone, I tested again it recently as I just got fibre in the house and thought I should compare as Vodafone has always been crap on 4G round here anyway I got 40 downstream and 20 upstream on the phone!

Of course here we are limited by total volume of data and at those speeds you can use all of it very quickly, I like the time based payment in the Phils for their unlimited deals a lot more.

    What time of day?

Being able to download large amounts of data or to be able to sustain a VPN to the office for support would be very useful to me.

I obtained that speed measurement at 2pm (6am GMT) but our MiFi (mobile wifi) had been excellent since I switched it on at 1pm - when our daily brown-out started. I was getting that sort of performance until around 4pm which coincided with the end of the brown-out but is also the start of the busy period.

Yes, Jim, it is very dry here - talk of it being another El Nino year - two in succession is quite rare and the it's also rather hot; three weeks before mid-summer's day #1.

Vodaphone is one of Malta's mobile operators and is rather expensive; I certainly will not be buying mobile broadband from them!
