Good Things You Have Seen Overseas That You Wish We Had Here In The UK

While travelling in different countries I have seen one or two things that I wish we had in the UK, I would be interested to learn of what you have seen on your travels that we could take up in the UK.

For example, I was once travelling to a site in France late at night and was struggling to find a hotel late at night as the smaller hotels which were on my route tended to close early in the evening. I came across a Campanile Motel (which we have here too) and it was all in darkness. I walked up to the reception hoping to see a night porter, unfortunately there was nobody there. Next to the reception door there was what looked to me like a ATM machine, it was in fact a machine where you put your credit card in, booked a room and then the key dropped out of the bottom of the machine for one of the outside rooms, I thought to myself, "what a good idea".

Similar to this, also in France, I have booked a B&B where I would arrive late at night, on the booking being taken I have been given a four digit code which opens a little safe by the door of the B&B where my room key is stored, good idea for the weary traveller :)

One more, whilst in Brazil I was in a large restaurant and each table had a set of its own beer taps, every glass of beer you pulled registered on a little meter under the pump and you paid in one hit when you had finished drinking.

Pleasant place, I was there around a Christmas time and was surprised their Christmas meal consists mainly of fish. Had some good Elk and Reindeer there too.

The snow as in many countries that are used to snow doesn't cause them any problems what so ever unlike here in the UK.

Prime rib is the winner for me in the US, you're right good food but you pay just like here for a fancy meal.

I suppose you could say that they have good service too which you don't find much of here.

Never had Arabic soup, I've had plenty of that sweet tea though that they turn out in small glasses that burn your hands :), why don't they use a cup.

The Libyans called it Libyan soup. In other countries it was called Arabic soup. Lamb based. Sherpa Arabia or something like that, in arabic.

Here's Delias recipe for it. I think she serves it up to the Norwich City fans on matchdays.

    Sunshine and warmer ambient temperatures.

If I could tow the Isle of Man down to slightly warmer latitudes I would. Maybe 40 degrees North would do.

And huge portions. Last time I was over there I ordered cheese and jalapeno smothered nachos as a starter. It turned out to be my main course there was so many of them. LOL.
