Outdated claptrap, the monarchy belongs to the medieval era. Another expensive knees-up with the taxpayer having to foot a number of the bills, in a country where visits to food banks continue to grow. Talk about inequality!

BBC have been giving this blanket coverage, Nicholas Witchell has been dusted off to give us every minutiae. It's as trivial as the "news" gets.

Presented with the evidence (not least the doubts over his parentage) it's a charade that will enthral the simpletons. He comes across as decent enough, but this is already boring and insignificant.

I like the monarchy, its a British anarchranism which is cheaper than Brexit. It generates millions in tourism revenue and also lifts the spirits of many Brits with stories like this and lets be honest, moral is pretty low at the moment. The royal family inc. contribute much more than they take also so all this republican claptrap about food banks is just that, claptrap. Its more of an attack on inherited wealth which is why so many republicans are also socialists or marxists. At the end of the day, TOWIE etc, you can always turn over watch Fox news or RT.

Food banks are not republican, I am merely highlighting the struggle that many have to make ends meet. The pomp and ceremony (and drain on resources like the Police) are a million miles from the daily lives of the Queen's "subjects". If it's a portrait of British life, it's one that the Queen would only hang from her toilet wall.

I am a Socialist, and I am happy to be labelled so.

Did I say food banks were republican? You are a republican and a socialist. Sort s of just repeats my point. Thanks. the rest of your point about drain is factually incorrect. Why can you not see that?

I am quite sure that food is plentiful for the inhabitants of the Miraflores Palace and their Socialist (Marxist) cronies whereas the majority of the population of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela are either starving or reduced to eating domestic pets. Talk about inequality! I really don't think that such a situation pertains in the UK where, according to the UN, one in four of the population is obese.

Uh ha. You may not think so but it is an important news story - not least because she is an American divorcee and he is fifth in line to the throne - and news organisations do tend to milk such for all they're worth. Look at the blanket coverage the non-incident at London's Oxford Street received last Friday evening. Don't worry, the Socialist BBC will be back on message today or tomorrow informing you of how many food banks have opened in the last week - and where they're located so you can restock your larder.

"Trivial" you say. I think it illustrates perfectly just how much the monarchy has modernised: the last senior royal who married an American divorcee had to abdicate and live the remainder of his life as an exile. In choosing Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has upped the modernisation by choosing a mixed race lass from a humble background in a foreign country. How very egalitarian of him, you should approve!

It takes a special sort of nasty mean-spirited Socialist arch-republican to trawl-up speculation that was just that some thirty-odd years ago at a time that the subject has announced his engagement.

But as you clearly dislike such events and patronisingly and insultingly dismiss those who do, perhaps you should relocate to a country that is run on the Socialist-Marxist lines you so embrace. Such as the afore-mentioned Venezuela or maybe North Korea would be more to your liking.

Why are we increasingly veering towards politics on this non-political thread???

Whilst wishing the couple all the best for their forthcoming " conscious coupling" , I find myself hoping that it will last the course.
But I am not too sure it will.
In my mind Harry is looking for a mother figure to get close to, and love, Meghan on the other hand may be there for whatever she can get....

Are all Republicans Marxist? Are all Socialists Republican?

The last Royal Wedding had a police bill of £12.5m. Not forgetting the RNLI helicopter that was flown from Anglesey to London for the occasion. That is, I assume, the same helicopter that people were raising funds for shortly afterwards!

We live in austere times, public sector wages continue to be capped at a rate 2 percentage points lower than inflation. I will point out the hypocrisy of a nation dawning over a celebrity wedding whilst homeless rates, foodbank visit rates and poverty rates continue to rise.

I am talking generically and not specifically, so I can't see why you have taken the comment personally.

Are you thick and don't recognise a hint when one slaps you in the face or just plain bloody arrogant? Your response is purely political and against the rules of this forum.

It is also ill-informed and inaccurate: the helicopter to which you refer is (probably) HM Coastguard's based at RAF Valley (or Wales Air Ambulance). The RNLI do not operate helicopters; the clue is in the name.

When you come to an illogical conclusion that, because 1 in 4 of a nation's population is obese then there are no food shortage issues and use that as your starting point to debate and you conclude by telling me to move to Venezuela - it's difficult for me to counter any of that nonsense with anything other than mirth.
