    Hello.
First of all, thank you to HaloHalo for the warm welcome to the forum.

I am here to chat and contribute if I can. But also to find information and help for my very close friend. She hopes to bring her daughter to join her in the UK very soon. The Home Office website is huge and sometimes confusing.
Just getting a handle on the basics is confusing.
Instead of diving in and starting a new thread I am going to spend some time reading older threads which have discussed visas and settlement for family members. I have already spotted one that has made me realise how much I don't know.

    Thank you bigmac.
I now find that I cannot find the thread which caught my eye!
It was a poster who has successfully navigated a settlement visa for a child and it was talking about a family member taking the child to Manilla for routine vaccination or similar.
It made me realise that I don't even know where to start. I am looking at a detail but have no idea what the whole picture looks like.
bigmac - do you know of any links I can look at that will help us to understand the whole picture and where the following bits fit?

Income requirement for the Mother in the UK.
Accomodation requirements for the Mother and later for the daughter (who is 16).
    What does the visa cost.
Does the visit to Manila take place after the visa is approved or before?
Is the application almost certain to succeed if all requirements are met?

The Home Office website feels like it is organised by Visa Type. I am pretty sharp but I am searching for many hours and then convinced that I am in a section that is not applicable.
The childs father in the Philippines has sadly died after a long illness. So the matter is now a little more pressing for my friend.

first off--on what basis is your friend in the UK ? is she settled here ?

the routine vacs in manila---is actually a TB test --the applicant must have this done before the visa application.

the income requirement to bring a parent and child to the UK is £22,400 pa.

suiutable accommodation is not a fixed thing--the sponsor needs to prove there is no overcrowding.

initial visa fee is < £1500. there is a further £500 surcharge for NHS services.

there are further fees over the following 5 years--total over £7000...and rising.

this is merely a skeleton framework of the whole process. you need to thoroughly research it.

    Thank you.
She is settled in UK with ILR.

I can see/find the income requirement to bring a partner and child to the UK. My frustration is with the fact that the partner (her husband) has recently died after a long illness and IMO the Home Office is confusing (me) by talking about £18,600 plus £3000 or so for the child.
I think you are saying that the figure (£22,400) will also apply just to bring the child to the UK?

Thanks again. For now, can I just ask you one more question please. Do you think that employing an Immigration Solicitor is pretty much essential??
