Yes. The GPs and nurses here continually point out to me that being overweight is a big factor in both high blood pressure and diabetes.

    Bought this one:
It also has memory for two people.
Bought it in "Boots" for £99 but we know it will be used a lot over the coming years.

That will certainly do the job, take your BP once a day, three times actually then keep a note of the average.

Make yourself a chart, you will be able to mark your progress now you have a new gadget :)

    Living dangerously here in Mexico.

Last night I was drinking beer and lime juice from a glass with a heavily salted rim.

It's your life, Dave, you old salty dog :)
I would think salt is the least of your worries over there.

    Averaging 138/88 now.
The exercise and diet/tabs are helping a lot.
Keeping the kids in straightjackets is a boon too

    To stop any further confusion,
    One heavily salted rim...

No need for a bag of ready salted with that beer mix (Michelada).

I was in Asda yesterday, just happened to notice that they sell a blood pressure monitor in the pharmacy for just £10!!!

I don't know if I would put my trust in such a cheap monitor, having said that it could be equally as good as a more expensive model, who knows?

Is this the Omron BP Monitor £10 deal at Asda instore posted on HotUKDeals a couple of weeks ago.

If so it looks like the Omrom M2 basic upper arm BP monitor selling at half price.

Thats the one I have, bought it last year from Amazon for £14. Its basic, but does the job well.

I have 6 monthly checkups, and the healthcare assistants now recommend taking bp readings at home for 7 days prior the next appointment, seems a much better way of measuring bp over x days rather than just one reading at the surgery. Last time I did a reading 2 weeks ago it was 139/70/45, in my case its only the systolic thats the problem, and has been for many years, its something inherited.

Sounds like the £10 monitor is a good buy then :)

Omron is a good name for blood pressure monitors, used by doctors and hospitals.

In fact having just checked my archived receipts, I see that I also purchased this very same model in February 2011, cost £13.99 from Amazon.

It was certainly an Omron BP Monitor, which is the most recognised brand.
