And then they charge for a non-sense standard answer if you make an enquiry......

"The department charges £2,297 for an application for indefinite leave to enter or remain (per person for the main applicant and every dependant), a rise of 22.5% on 2016-17. It costs £252 to process each application"

Am I reading that right? £2297 for an ILR application? If so that fee has more than doubled in just a few years.

I agree. Common knowledge here of course but he should have done his homework. As you say only takes 5 mins to join somewhere like us and ask the question, it's too much money to just throw away.

    I
    Is this for real???
    That's flipping ridiculous!!!
Can't believe that I'm lost for words!!
I'm guessing then by the time I'm ready to apply for ILR it will be over £3-4000!!!

Or a new regulation would be put in place- might be required to get additional flr(m).

    We would never know.

work out the total costs for a fiancee visa:

    application fee
    TB test
    IELTS test

first flr within 6 months fee
    same day service fee
    first IHS surcharge

    2nd flr after 30 months
    2nd IHS fee

    ILR after 60 months.

    Citizenship.

    £8600 ish.

    then add--flights, wedding.....

Or if your smart like Markham you can live in Malta at no significant visa cost and the British taxpayer will give you £27800 in the same 5 year period if you have a couple of kids and pay your health care

Ahem, there is no Visa cost for my wife or her recently-bereaved mother who will be joining us around Christmastime.

And go on, do tell, how did you arrive at me being paid a paltry £27,800 over 5 years? Did you pluck the figure out of thin air or did you consult Dianne Abbott who also underestimates the true cost of things? One thing is for sure: you didn't get that figure from government web sites!

As far as I'm aware these days the only fiancé visa is the fiancé visit visa which is for 6 months only ????
So I have no idea what all that was that you guys are saying???
Please enlighten me if I'm wrong??

there is no " fiancee visit visa " ...its a settlement visa---called settlement / marriage. same fee as settlement/ spouse visa---but only valid for 6 months. therefore no IHS fee payable.
during the 6 months--the fiancee is expected to come over, get married..then apply for the first of 2 FLR's--each for 30 months.--and pay the 2 IHS surcharges.
so the fiancee visa 5 year process costs more than the spouse visa--because of the extra flr.

or do you mean the marriage visit visa ?

that is a visit visa---for 6 months--in which time the fiance(e) visits the UK--marries--then goes on to live in another country ! its really for Brit ex pats who want to have their wedding in the UK then return to where they are living.

should the Brit ex pat subsequently decide to return to the UK permanntly--he /she will still need their spouse to apply for the 5 year settlement visa.
