I have to be in Tijuana next week so am flying into LAX, I will get a few pics of skid row and little Tokyo, incredible places considering the states is a super power, last time I was there it wasn't dog crap on the pavements, it was human.
Er indoors and my son and his fiance do have family members in the States with very good standards of living, but education made that possible.

The soaps like Dallas on TV created that type of distorted reality.
Having lived in the USA, the reality is that there are beautiful homes and beautiful people but there are also very deprived areas too and often drug-ravaged communities but perhaps people wouldn't tune in every week to watch things like that.

I would tune in, its reality,I love places that are a little gritty, reminds me of sunderland :ninja: I am staying in a million and odd quid house next week, Filipino/Chinese relatives, and visiting a friend who is renting a big house in the Hollywood Hills, but I would feel equally at home on skid row or in a downtown hood.

I was on the beach on the balboa peninsular yesterday, the town is incredibly pretty, but no vagrants whatsoever,as soon as I went into LA last night fentanyl addicts and homeless everywhere,Hollywood glitters for some people but not all sadly.

The longer I spend here the more I see of the problem,I spoke to a business owner who discovered a camp of around 50 people behind his business,he now keeps a gun in his workshop after they cut his perimeter fence to get in.

Nice description of the Philippines, this is basically inevitable in unrestricted free market economies.

Drugs seem to have escalated since I lived near Baltimore back in the late 90's/early 2000's; I used to drive into the city from the suburbs and see people standing on the side of the road holding little "baggies" of crack that people could score without even getting out of their cars. Now there seems to be a widespread opioid crisis over there. I haven't travelled much since we had kids so I'm afraid I am a little out of touch with reality in many respects. :erm:

The homeless in the USA seem much better dressed than the homeless I have seen in many other countries.

I wandered down a train track yesterday to watch a pair of peregrine falcons flying around a water tower and found a lady and gent living in an encampment, both seemed to have issues sadly, they survive by collecting plastic for recycling,my friend who lives here was kind of shocked when I told him and said I shouldn’t wander into such places or speak to people who live there  7FCB9920-A62B-4800-85A8-C5CEFB71DA9A.jpeg 6731F07F-AD45-467E-9266-7701D21929A2.jpeg

Mumbai (ex Bombay) seemed to me to have the greatest financial difference between the haves and the have-nots.
