Kay was bitten by a stray cat; after a consultation over Facebook with family and friends we concluded that she had better get the jabs. I suggested San Lazaro but she was not sure about that and felt happier going to Fairview General which she knows. Costs were P 3850 for the serum test and first set of jabs including anti tetanus and P1380 for each of the four follow up jabs. Then I found this article, which is quite interesting: http://www.philstar.com/opinion/2013/06/26/958259/your-ignorance-will-cost-you Now we need to get the official inside cat (not the same cat) jabbed. In the course of all this I found that the animal rabies vaccine used today was developed at Silliman University on Negros
Does the treatment still involve injections in the stomach?, I seem to remember a guy in Ghana being bitten and he had to have 4 injections in the stomach on alternative days. Things have probably moved on now and the treatment is less intrusive I hope for your young ladies sake.
Tha That squares with the amount I had to pay for Janna's injections last month, in her case it was a local puppy that had a certificate of rabies vaccination however who knows if the vet was honest and had not really injected the dog with saline then charged full fee to the owner. On that basis I simply had to get Janna vaccinated.
I remember being threatened with those when a dog bit me in Kenya - I was eight at the time. I am happy to say that times have moved on. Kay got one in each arm and one in the rump on first attending and one in the arm on each subsequent visit. "Not as bad as childbirth", she said. Three down, two to go - on the 7th and the 21st.
