Now that Covid has died down a bit I’m thinking of visiting my wife in the Philippines for an extended period ...

I look after my mother but I have cover now and while she is alive I can’t make any permanent moves.

Getting my wife over here has stalled for various reasons and that’s for the future

I like the idea of going there for extended periods like I was doing before.

How can I go there for longer ?

    please advise

    1 month 3 month 6 month 12 month scenarios

    how does it work

    very much appreciated

Right now you will need to obtain a 9A visa in advance from the London Philippine Embassy as your wife is in the Philippines, you have to go through 10 day quarantine hotel on arrival and a couple of tests.

After that you have to extend your 9A at or before 59 days at one of the BI offices around the country and pay the relevant fees, personally I would pay for the multi entry version of the 9A to be sure that you have the ability to return to the Philippines easily within 12 months if you had to suddenly leave.

COVID has not died down in the Philippines if anything Delta has a foothold now and is spreading rapidly and it's very optimistic to think it has died down here in the UK schools are just going back, there is a high probability that it is going to explode here in the UK in the next few months.

thank you very much kind sir - if it was normal over there - the 59 day thing can be extended indefinitely otherwise I should imagine ...cheers buddy - sounds quite bad there at the mo.

You can still extend the 9A once you are in the country, the thing you get when you arrive in normal times is just a stamp a visa waiver and not a real visa, extending that to 59 days is effectively applying for a 9A.

You can't extend a 9A forever but you can extend it for a fair bit of time not sure now but it should be a couple of years I think.

I need a job that allows me to spend 6 months here and 6 months there THAT would be ideal ..

unless I get a sales job with a British firm there.

    Or

    go self employed again

all pie in the sky thoughts ...during this crisis

He's married, he will be allowed in if he has a 9A visa, but he has to convince the Embassy that he is married first, same as I have to convince them that I have children there in order to get a 9A.

Foreigners are banned just now, spouses like you and people like me who have children there are exceptions who they will allow to enter the country but only with a pre existing valid 9A tourist visa.

If one is fully vaccinated and can prove it, it's only 7 day quarantine. But the rules over here change as much as British weather.

The problem is they only accept proof of vaccinations that were administered in the Philippines, so a Filipino who got double vaccinated and then went overseas for a while and then returned will be able to quarantine for 7 days but the vaccination evidence of a Brit or American will not be recognised.

If you left for a break and came back your vaccination would be recognised because you got it over there.

If you need docs you need to get them here Site Maintenance (psaserbilis.com.ph)

It has been down for a while that site but it says it will be back up and running tomorrow.

I need to order my kids birth certificates on there for delivery to me in the UK in order to prove I qualify for a 9A, I want to travel at Christmas but the 10 day quarantine in Manila at a cost of maybe £400 plus the 10 day quarantine in the UK on return at £2300 is making it impossible for me just now, my employer would not accept me being quarantined for most of the end of January and £2700 plus another £1300 for the flight is just out of reach just now.

It's the UK quarantine that prevents me travelling not the Philippine quarantine.

I was told today I can go for a 13A permanent resident visa and it could mean I can come and go as I please.

    anyone know about it ?

    cheers

You could but it is not so easy to do from here, other guys on here have 13A and can better advise you on the requirements.

Remember the term is 'permanent resident' the initial visa is for 1 year and you need to renew it at the end of that time, the renewal is valid for 10 years (according to one site) and I think there is a financial requirement as well.

Renewable every 5 years, Jim. Also you will have to pay exit clearance at the airport not sure about the exact amount 2 or 3k pesos. Better if he got Permanent residence in England then he won't need to do a probationary.

I read the 9A is for 90 days and you provide far less info - but I might just go for the biggie and be done with it.

I have a few weeks off work now so I might as well go to the embassy and get the ball rolling.

    thanks for everything.

with my recent heart attack and the pills I’m now on - the likelihood of me being over there indefinitely seem remote - I might as well stay as long as I can - come home here - get stocked up and go back again.

    best of both worlds hopefully
