Not sure there will be a lot of difference between the two routes although definitely more expensive in terms of visa costs. Time spent organising marriage in philippines and waiting for NSO marriage certificate offsets some of the 6 months on the fiance visa.

If you factor in the costs for boyfriend to fly to the Philippines to get married and any extra costs associated with marrying there like visit to manila to embassey and signed off free to marry certificate the difference reduces. I thought getting married in UK was the least effort option which is why got married in UK. We did it differently to both routes but that suited our circumstances and isn't one of the normal option and definitely took longer and was more expensive.

Probably better to decide on where the two of you prefer to get married and what is best for both of you as opposed to trying to save a small amount of money and time which depending on circumstances means it gets spent on different things. Living in the UK means a UK marriage certificate is more useful in the long term when doing things and easier to get than an NSO marriage certificate when you are in the UK. (On my list of things to work out how to get as we registered marriage at embassey in London and was not available last time was in philippines so will have to try and order from here.)

Hmm but I hear if marrying in Philippines now that you can’t apply for a while? After getting married...so say I married tomorrow I couldn’t apply immediately for the visa?

Ballpark figure, how long does it take from submitting fiancé application to it being granted? My nephew has plenty of banged cash, earns over double the threshold wage, has a place to live, and his 2 year old daughter is living here, his girlfriend is still sitting in Cebu twiddling her thumbs waiting.

Thanks Davey, the immigration lawyer he used assured him one month timescale but I guessed he wasn't being accurate in his estimate.

Depends on whether priority in which case potentially a month but settlement visas which we have just completed (and I believe fiance visa is similar timescale) take about three months on standard option.

They don't guarantee priority timescale so if any issues then can take longer.

There are no guarantees on timescales - takes as long as it takes.

The time applying and waiting for a fiancee visa decision maybe longer than that arranging the wedding and once successful you arrive in the UK and can be on a fiancee visa for up to 6 months so I would suggest as in my previous post the fiancee visa can take up to 6 months longer.
I don't agree and in our experience that when living in the UK a UK marriage certificate carries any greater weight than a Philippines marriage certificate, if of course you have ensured you have covered all your bases.
It is as discussed many times on this forum a choice of options best suited to the couple involved and their circumstances.
Where I would suggest caution is where couples have met once only in what could be described as a holiday environment and then want to marry

i think its a better idea if the fiancee tries to get a visit visa to come over to the UK and take a good look at where she could end up living, rather than trying for a settlement visa straight off.

in our case i met my--now--wife when she was already living in the UK on a student visa. we ended up living together almost 6 months before her visa expired. a year later she got a visit visa and came over for 6 months. 2 years later she got her fiancee visa and came over for good in feb 2016. so--altogether by then we had been in a relationship 4& 1/2 years.

The beauty of forums is everyone has a valid view and experience that people can benefit from.
Is there a right way or a wrong way only the couple involved will know.

Thank you very much. For now my fiance and I are considering the idea of getting married here in the Philippines.

They don’t as such...as long as your earning that amount your good...but having abit of savings shows that you won’t dip into the welfare budget and obviously you’ll need money for the application itself and nhs surcharge etc...so be cautious and make sure you have few thousand

I beg to disagree with the last statement, you don’t have to show a few thousand in your account when applying for a visa as long as you meet the financial requirement then that’s all that matters, really.

@Chris&janin I was talking about in broad terms the cost of the visa journey at todays visa prices not savings or earning levels and when ever I have applied I have never shown my savings account
