Im trying to apply for the British passport for my kids. The Gov.UK website has said that I 'must send original documents unless they ask for a photocopy'. All documents for my kids are currently in the Philippines such as birth certificates, they will not accept scanned copies that my girlfriend will email to me? She will have to post all the documents to the UK?

Have a search on the site for baby passport and should bring up links to threads like this one

Hoping some people with experience of getting passport for their child. @oss has done it but a while ago.

I expect they will want originals so will need to get sent from Philippines. Make sure use reliable tracked service like FedEx or DHL. Pricy but for this worth doing.

You want PSA birth certificate as opposed to original certificate used to produce the PSA certificate. Order in Philippines and get wife to send with original documents. I wouldn't recommend philpost assuming they offer service at moment

It's not cheap, but we found DHL to be reliable and fast (4/5 days) when sending documents between the UK and Philippines. Just make sure you at least take photocopies, or scans, of any official documents - passports, birth certificates etc - before sending just in case the worst happens and they get lost.

A start point maybe in this link ie what was the martial status of your girlfriend when your children were born?

That's why I pointed out on a previous post above that each option has plus points and negative points and varying longing costs!

My children are only 2 and 3 years old, my girlfriend has not been married before.

Is it easier to apply for the childs passports at the Brirish Embassy in Manila or easier for my to apply here in the UK through the Gov.UK site?

If I apply here she is going to have to send various ORIGINAL documents/filipino passports to me including her parents birth certificates and marriage certification. It would be a disaster if all this was to get lost in mail. Maybe I just get on a flight to manila and meet her there and go to the British embassy with my documents that I will take with me.

To my knowledge it has not been possible to apply for a child passport at the Embassy in Manila since 2009.

I was one of the last to be able to apply at the Embassy before passport application handling was moved to Bangkok and then later all the way back to Liverpool, even British Citizens have to renew remotely now by sending everything back to the UK.

Your reasoning is the precise reason that I have not yet renewed my daughter's original 5 year child passport because that original document is her only true proof of British citizenship.

My daughter is coming up to age 14 I will eventually get her Philippine passport renewed and then bring her to the UK on her Philippine passport with her old documents and then get her UK passport renewal done in person here.

Ok thanks for the info. I received an email from Gov.Uk passport advice telling me that they do not in fact need the originals, they will accept a certified copy of documents providing they are certified by the 'registrar'. So if my childrens documents are stamped by the registrar at the PSA then they should accept them.

The PSA birth certificate that is required for most things in the Philippines is a certified copy as issued. In terms of the Philippines it is only the PSA birth certificate that is accepted as a birth certificate. Original as signed at registrar doesn't seem much use once registered at PSA. Think costs about 200 peso to get in Philippines.

When it comes to applying for a fiance visa, she will have to visit the Embassy in Manila/Cebu after the application on the Gov.UK website has been made right?

You visit VFS Global to do biometrics. Definitely in Manila but not sure about other locations.

Give in passport and then either get passport delivered using courier or collect again from VFS global once decision made.

Hi, I am just starting an application for a Fiancé visa for my filipino gf who is in Manila. We will marry in the UK.
Do I need an 'Affidavit of support' from the Philippine Embassy in London so she can leave the Philippines??

Hi Everyone, after some advice if anyone can offer! I think this may be an appropriate thread for my enquiry, if not I will start a new one.

My girlfriend in the Philippines and I are planning for her to visit me in the UK. We have engaged the services of an agent called Enhanced Visa but the information they are giving is a bit confusing. We will apply for the 6 Month "tourist" visa which allows her entry to the UK but not to undertake any work etc. Enhanced visa have stated when we apply to the embassy for the duration dates of her stay is to initially apply for 3 month stay period, as she is more likely to be granted this rather than applying for the full 6 months straight away, however my understanding is that, if a visa is granted it will be valid for 6 months automatically but her stay will be dictated by the dates stated on the initial application (3 months), I am trying to see if, when she arrives in the UK can she extend this 3 months up to six months? Enhanced Visa seem to think that she needs to return to the Philippines after 3 months and then re-apply to travel again! I hope this is clear for someone to maybe offer advice but I am still drilling the agent for more clarification, thanks for reading.

As you are considering a 'Tourist'/Visitor Visa it may be better to start a new thread, but this may help in the meantime -

    https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor/apply-standard-visitor-visa

Be aware, Tourist/Visitor Visas are extremely difficult to secure as all the onus is on the applicant to prove that they can support themselves financially etc, for the length of their intended stay - whether that be for a 2-week holiday or up to the full 6 months permitted on a Tourist visa! It does not matter if their boyfriend/girlfriend/fiance(e) pledges full support for the length of their stay.
Other things the UKVI will need to be satisfied about include, whether the applicant has good reasons to leave the UK at the end of their stay, i.e. a job to return to, property in their home country, family ties etc - all reasons for them not to overstay their Visa...

I'm not an expert on the Tourist Visa, but one reason your advisor may be suggesting that you show a shorter intended length of stay is the issue of affordability of your stay?

my ( now ) wife applied for a visit visa and was refused--even though she had been in the UK on a student visa for 4 years previously.

she applied again-for a holiday visit.-and was granted. She stayed the full 6 months--in which time i sold my house ( to raise savings to meet the financial requirements for a settlement visa later on ) rented a place and we got engaged.

You will get a visit visa valid for 6 months she must leave by the expiry
Date, if asked in the future why she stayed longer plans change its the real world! Just leave before expiry date.
The agent is right to a degree that applying for 3 months is financially softer than 6.
As @UKDJ has said the onus is on demonstrating she can support or will be supported for the duration of the stay same with accomadation and also has good reason to return home job house etc
