How to renew philippine passport and change surname

I am on 1st FLR (M) and my passport expires near October.

I wish to renew my passport and also change my surname to my husband's. I've already reported my marriage to the Philippines via the Embassy in London after I got married in the UK and all I got was the same form returned back with some stamp on it.

I suppose I have to go back to the Embassy in London. Can someone point me to the form I need to print and fill in and what I need to bring to the Embassy on the day? I wish to fly back to the Philippines for holiday at end of August but only after I have the new passport with new surname on it.

After I have renewed passport with new surname I believe I have 3 months to change the BRP also?

Before you go to Phil Emb, make sure you have a PSA authenticated marriage cert. You can check the Phil Emb London website for the renewal form.

You need these docs with you:
    - Report of Marriage and Marriage contract orig
    - PSA docs (marriage and birth - sometimes bc is not required but some people were asked to have it so better take it with you)
    - renewal form
    - 2 Phil govt ID and also photocopies
    - Return envelope

When you have your new passport, you have to change your BRP details.

Hi @menchu_edge do you have your PSA marriage cert yet? Wondering how long it takes for the mc to be available.

I’m going to submit my ROM soon, do I need to bring a return envelope as well? Thanks!

I don't have mine yet. Was the other week when I asked a friend to request a copy for me. Unfortunately, it's still not available in their system even if it was transmitted to them last April 05 by DFA. I submitted my RoM January 05 this year. So expect 6-7 months.

Yeah, bring a return envelope if you don't wanna go back there for the release.

Unfortunately same sex couples cannot change their names still

I think if they will submit a RoM, the Embassy will refuse too. Same sex marriage/partnership isn't recognized in Phil.

And the rules for name change are very strict, not like here where I was Sober Max before my divorce

Remember that you are overseas. The philipine embassy will have to report your marriage to psa/nsa from london to pinas which takes a few months. Even if you get married in pinas, it will take around 3 months for your city hall civil registrar to reflect it in nso/psa.

Its just how it is. Patience is the key.

I reported my marriage around december. Surely it should be in the system in Philippines now right?

Can I get a relative to get the PSA marriage / birth cert then mail it to us in UK? Also is it essential to to get both authenticated?

Your parent or sibling can go to the nearest psa office and request for it. They will need your complete name, date of marriage and place of marriage. They can then dhl the psa cert to you and then use that to renew your passport.

Im not sure if they need it authenticated, i thought that psa cert is enough- like when you applied for your passport, all you needed was nso/psa birth certificate (no authentication required).

Yeah you can, just send her the authorisation email and 2 IDs copy. Marriage/birth cert in PSA paper is fine.

Hi. Is it necessary to secure PSA marriage certificate if your wedding took place in UK? I am also doing my passport transaction- renewal and changing inro married name.

Yeah, it's required. You can't change your surname in your passport without it.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am due to travel next week in London Phil embassy with lack of requirement- the psa marriage certificate. Sounds like i will waste effort to do so :)

Good thing you ask. I know someone who went back and forth 3x. Will be her 4th when she goes the next time (with PSA docs). Just make sure to have with you PSA birth and marriage cert (sometimes they don't require birth - depends on the officer) and 2 Phil Gov't IDs

Ok, I think I have an update on passport renewal with name change.
Been to the embassy to report my marriage. I asked if I can renew my passport at the same time. The officer said no, my ROM has to be approved first. The embassy will send me back a copy when in a couple of weeks then I can bring that when I renew my passport.
Then I asked if I need a PSA marriage cert to renew my passport. Officer said no need, as long as my ROM is approved, no need to wait for PSA as it will take too long “pinayagan na nila” he said (they have allowed it).
I dont know how reliable that info is, I wanted to double check with the embassy website but it has been down for weeks.

Does anybody know if I can keep my passport while the embassy is processing the renewal? I’ve read in their board passport renewal will take 8-12 weeks.

Double check again coz at first they said the same thing to my friend (no need for PSA, RoM is ok) but then when she went there again, they said, oh there's a new rule, blah blah blah.

You can keep with you your passport, they will not get it. Most of the Fils who renewed their passport this year got it after a month. They will tell you 6 weeks or more though.
