I wonder what the implications of a non-points based system will be? I'm sure there will be anger from some of the Brexiteers. Theresa May has rejected a points-based system for controlling EU migration, one of the key promises of Leave campaigners during the referendum. Speaking in China, the PM said people backed Brexit because they wanted "an element of control" over EU migration. But she said a points-based model would not allow the government to control who was coming from elsewhere in Europe. Ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage said many people had voted Leave for the policy, backed by Boris Johnson among others. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-37271420
I was a little angry after the initial news but after hearing May on the news giving her explanation as to why she is not interested in the Australian system I have accepted it and think she will come up with something better. After watching Nigel being interviewed on TV this morning I am pretty sure he will jump back into the political spotlight if May strays too far away from the Brexiteers wishes
The Leave campaigners weren't in a position to promise anything. They weren't and aren't the government. Surprised people couldn't see that.
I read the story and I'll be reserving my judgement until such time as mere talk becomes policy, always hoping of course that this doesn't negatively affect my wife's status in the UK.
