    Hi everyone,
I'm just about to send all the supporting documentation of to my fiancée in Manila but would like some advise on one or two bits
    1. She will be applying for the visa for family of a settled person, as I'm a UK citizen, she is my fiancée and it will eventual allow her to settle once we are married and we apply for ILR, is this the right visa?
    2. I know the fee would be £1464 which is fine, she is worth more than her weight in gold and she is a curvaceous lass, but I'm trying to work out the health surcharge. Would the visa route be settlement ? and would the visa type be for an unmarried partner (we are engaged at the moment)?
    3. And lastly, she will be filling the forms on line and then taking them to the visa centre in Manila, any advice on the service we should choose?
    Cheers,
    Tim : )

hi. firstly---as she is your fiancee and wants to settle in the UK and marry you----she wants a settlement:settlement-marriage visa. ( AKA fiancee visa ) its valid for 6 months in which time you get married. then she applies for Further Leave to Remain (FLR).

as her fiancee visa is for less than 6 months--there is no IHS surcharge due. she pays IHS when she applies for her FLR. but it means she is not covered for NHS usage till then.

she applies online--and takes her documents to VFS---if she wants the priority service its an extra £500------but alas right now UKVI are not meeting the 10 day turnaround implied. but its your call.

you send all your documents to sheffield. we think this is what is causing the delays .

    Make your application here.

    https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/home/welcome

To select the visa type you put this:

    Reason for Visit: Settlement
    Visa Type: Settlement
    Visa Sub type: Marriage

You are applying for fiance visa (marriage settlement visa) and as what bigmac says there's no IHS fee yet. And you apply for FLR first ILR is still a long time.

When submitting your documents you have the option to avail the scanning service on the VFS or you send the documents to Sheffield directly.

    Hi Big Mac,
Is the fiancée visa the same as the marriage visitor visa? As looking at the government site, the overview, it states you not planning to stay or settle?
    Cheers
    Tim

    1. Overview
You must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa if:

    • you want to get married or register a civil partnership in the UK
    • you want to give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in UK
    • you’re not planning to stay or settle in the UK after your marriage or civil partnership
    • you meet the other eligibility requirements

Marriage visitor visa is just marriage only visa she would then have to return to the Philippines and if wish to come back to settle in U.K. You would then have to apply for spouse visa. Only way to marry and settle in UK is to get marriage settlement visa then apply FLR after you are married. The marriage settlement visa( fiancée visa) is only valid 6 months so have to marry and then apply FLR within the 6 month period.

Thank you all for the help above, particularly as the Government portal is so useless on this. No doubt you will be hearing more from me as we continue, but for now my fiancée will be registering with the site and we will go from there : ). So again thank you for your help.

what we did--i registered online on her behalf--so we could both log in and read the online app form---and fill it all out between us--conferring via facebook . you can each add or amend the answers--dont forget to save changes as you go. we cocked it up at first--by selecting settlement: spouse---and had to start a new application as it wont allow changes to the type selected. take your time--it took us 2 weeks !

It's just the sensible thing to do just to avoid shipping documents and avoid delays. Just make sure to put the GWF reference number on the documents so it won't get lost.

Pretty much what we did - I completed the form online from Blighty - Kris assembled all her stuff and double checked what I'd done before I hit the submit button.

Okay, thanks to all of you above we've submitted the visa application in the right place under the right headings (hopefully): )
Now for the paying of the fees, in particular, the supplementary fees?
Which of the following are worth while?
Ideally I would like to send my sponsorship evidence to the immigration centre in Sheffield? Rather than to my fiancée in the Philippines. But which of the above would allow me to do so or help me make this a less painful process and how?
    Cheers again in advance,
    Tim

Nothing in that list will help you send docs to Sheffield coz you will have to do it yourself. That lists are services that you can avail in the VFS.

Are you gonna avail the scanning service?
