It's that internet speed isn't it!

I was speaking to her last week and the internet was fine, and the last few days its those robotic voices - the wifi broadband speeds in the provinces do not stack up to those in the first world do they?

    Frequent brown outs etc

    So what do you do?

We used to just accept that it was poor quality, and use facebook messenger to speak on the phone without video. And it's free and doesn't need a wifi signal.

We have bad internet connection as well espcially during the day so what I did is stay awake until 2 am and by this time the connection is better already since my family is asleep already and I'm the only one who is connected.

Sometimes I sleep early and wake up 4 am just to talk to my fiance with a better signal.

We had to put up with that for 2 years and now we're together and we bid goodbye to internet relationship. Now we're both enjoying fast internet connection but don't need to use it to communicate since we're together. :)

    It's all about sacrifice.

It's all about remembering that it's only a temporary thing. And to try to stay reasonably sane throughout it.

That's a pretty good upload speed. I'm on fibre and only get 4Mb/s upload.

I can only wish for upload speeds like that..we're on standard ADSL 7.5down and 0.25up. Uploading many files is painful, I actually use mobile phone tethering for that as I get 2-3 up on 3g.

    When I were a lad,
Put stamps on the letter, and two months later the reply would drop through the letter box.

    Them were the days! :D

Yeah I remember those kind of speeds well Rob, prior to January last year I only got 380Kb/s upstream.

When I was on Standard ADSL, I spent two and a half months uploading my 700GB photography archive to my SpiderOakONE account, I could probably do it in a couple of weeks now, but I was disappointed with fibre once I got it as I had been promised 10Mb/s upstream and only got 4Mb/s, when it was first installed I was getting nearly 5Mb/s then is dropped 20% for some reason.

There is a lot to be said for stamps, this instant communication lark is not always such a great thing.

I get 50 down and 10 up. The max on my plan is 52 down and 10 up. 4g is noticeably quicker even when just browsing the forum.

The slow speeds in the Philippines are something that we have all had to live with, give it a few years and things may improve.

I have given it twelve years, at the start of that time I had 1Mb/s downstream and 780kb/s upstream in Manila, today it is about 2.4Mb/s downstream and still about 780kb/s upstream and it still costs a lot more than broadband here, PLDT with broadband costs me around 30 pounds a month.

So in other words the likes of us will be six feet under by the time the Philippines gets a decent internet connection :)

Can businesses in the Philippines pay a premium for a better connection, especially the ones in major cities where they might have a better internet infrastructure?

Their 3G and 4G mobile connections are better, they might bypass hard wired lines for good reliable connections altogether but the sad answer is probably yes, six foot under.

Yes depending on where you are you can actually pay for something up to or that actually is a fibre connection it's been a while since I looked but there are a couple of service providers that will provide a better connection than PLDT but all of them even PLDT's high end offerings are very expensive for what they are.

From a forum perspective the fact we are UK based means a relatively slower speed for users in Pinas. I did a check on a service that determined loading speeds in different countries, Pinas was 3 seconds longer. I don't know if it was actual or calculated but latency issues either way.

We are in a major city, when we put in cable we wanted Sky (their Sky) but the girl said no as Sky did not have a presence in our subdivision, a few days after we settled for the local cable company Sky phoned back desperate to install a proper digital connection for us :) but they had missed the boat, if they had said yes earlier I would have paid the premium for better internet and a better selection of channels on the TV.

The forum loaded in reasonable time the last time I was over there.

Yes something is different with the Globe service in the last 2 months..My upload was always about 0.25 before.
The speed I get is fine for what I need...The big issue here these days is the ridiculously low data caps. Highest they will give me on my domestic LTE wireless acc. is 50 Gigs..
    (shakes head with anger)
Our DSL business connection gives us 10 gigs per day..
