My wife is obsessed with Korean dramas and she wants to subscribe to an app called 'Viki'.

She wants to watch on tv rather than an ipad. Does anyone know about Kodi boxes? I was wondering if it something she can install the app on to watch on our tv at home.

i bought a google chromecast a few weeks ago--just plugs into a tv and you use the i pad to install apps and then cast the content to the tv.

Many ways to watch on TV. Android boxes such as Kodi is one way. As Bigmac says, you can stream from the iPad to the TV using Chromecast. Another way is Apple TV. Some smart TV you can install the app and view directly. Many smart TVs will allow you to connect to your ipPhone/iPad directly.

    Thanks for the replies.

We have Apple tv in the bedroom but wondered about one that doesn't need airplay to connect to the main tv.

Do you install the app directly onto the kodi box?

I have an Android TV which can run Kodi directly, I will check if there is a plugin called Viki and if it can be installed.

You can install Kodi on Windows 10 and watch on the computer if you have a decent monitor and most modern Smart TV's support casting in one fashion or another.

Chromecast takes instructions from the PC or tablet or phone and of itself it then runs the stream that it has been instructed to run on the TV, other casting like Miracast actually runs the app on the tablet, phone or PC and streams the video to the TV which is a bit different as you can't then use the device easily for something else at the same time.

Having had a look what you probably want is the Chromecast as it will support the Viki app directly, I have checked and my Android TV would run Viki directly without needing Kodi, as would Chromecast so I think the Kodi option is probably not really needed.

I'm just checking if Viki is available on Kodi but I think that is the wrong approach, check if there is an Apple version of the Viki app.

I've checked Graham, Viki is included in an unofficial add-on repository which has to be downloaded to the Kodi app or Kodi box that makes it likely that it is a pirate add-on which strictly speaking we don't want to be talking about on here :)

The answer though is no, the Viki app does not run directly on the kodi box it is accessed via an add-on repository which has to be manually downloaded and installed, it's not like the Google Play store or the App store, there is a bit more work involved.

On the other hand if you are spending money on a Kodi box you would be better with a 30 quid Chomecast which would run the app directly and can be installed from the Play store.

i also just bought another blue ray player--a samsung that does all sorts of internet stuff--and i found viki in its app store. just got to figure out how to cast from my lenovo laptop ( win 10 ) to the samsung blue ray. the lenovo casts to the chromecast fine-----and my acer android tablet casts to both.

i had a silly few minutes with it--was trying out a USB stick in the blue ray--worked fine. then i found it left a thumbnail pic on the multi media screen. not a good idea. took a few mins to find out how to delete it. phew !
