I haven't been able to find anything concrete on it being banned. Does anyone have a link?

There was a Doctor on tv - slated Magic Sarap for high salt content and indicated it was likely to give people heart / diabetes problems etc. - I don't really know what he was saying but it was enough to stop my wife using it

High in salt? Perhaps the doctor thought you were supposed to eat it 'neat'.

Ajinomoto, also known as MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) It might improve some of the flavours in food and although not banned it is not recommended for continuous use

Nothing wrong with MSG. Much healthier than salt

I refuse to eat it, the ingredients look like a science experiment. I get headaches after eating anything with high levels of MSG. MSG has less sodium than salt, and can decrease the amount of salt in a person's diet - but the best way to control what you eat is to cook your own food. I rarely need to add salt in the stuff I make.

This morning I woke up with a terrible headache, checked the bin and saw an empty packet of chemicals known as magic sarap in the bin. My wife cooked noodles yesterday and she sneaked them in. I would happily give you any of our packets, but they are well hidden!

Then I venture to suggest that your 'stuff' will taste somewhat bland. A little salt enhances and brings out the flavour of food and is a necessity for life.

Not at all bland. I will be happy to demonstrate for you if ever you are in my neck of the woods.

Many items already contain salt, and there are ways to bring out flavour less crudely.

I still have a headache - taking a lot of water to flush this out of the system. (Or is that tmi?)

You'd consort with an 'enemy'? Should I bring a 'canary'? :D

I was actually thinking about fresh veg which definitely needs some salt in the cooking.

i put a good pinch of salt in the rice i'm cooking...nothing else gets it. i never put salt on my meals. dont even have a salt cellar.

my wife cooks jasmine rice for herself--no salt added.

True, and pasta. Which is why I said "rarely". Even then, certain sauces can compensate. You are no enemy of mine, although I disagree with you on many things and agree with you on fewer, I enjoy our little discussions here. Variety is the spice of life or, rather, the magic sarap of life. It gives me a headache!

Without salt your body cannot retain water...The more water you drink, the more salt you need, especially as you get older.
