Man born and raised in UK told he is not a British citizen

A 21-year-old man who was born and raised in Britain has been told to leave the UK by the Home Office because he is not a British citizen.

Shane Ridge, a joiner from Colne in Lancashire who describes himself as “as British as they come”, received a letter from the Home Office last week informing him that his driving licence would be revoked as he had “no lawful basis to be in the UK”.

It came as a surprise because all of Ridge’s relatives are British citizens. His mother was born in Australia during a family holiday, but has lived in Britain since then and has dual citizenship.

Under UK law, if a child was born before July 2006, the father’s British nationality will usually only automatically pass to the child if he was married to the mother at the time of birth. Because Ridge’s parents never married, he does not have an automatic right to citizenship and is required to apply for “right of abode”.

Appalling situation and obviously a shocking reality for him,his parents and siblings. Hopefully the Human rights mob can take up his case and do something meaningful for a change..
Personally,I`d much rather live in Australia than the **** hole the UK has become... But it`s not the point is it!

A point needs making here. I live in the UK and I can say with a high degree of assurity that it is not a ****hole. Quite the opposite.

"**** hole" comment was a metaphor for many,many issues I have with the ability to attain a good quality/standard of living in the U.K these days without having to work 12 hour days/night`s in rip off Britain and missing watching my kids grow up.
Ask me again in 5 years, post Brexit...Hopefully ,my attitudes will change.
I`ll probably still never return permanently..

I do not work 12 hours a day, I work 8 hours a day for 5 days a week with a generous holiday allowance. I enjoy a good standard of living in a very pleasant area of the UK. I suppose it does not work out well for some. Sorry it did not work out great for you and I can understand why you wanted to "escape".

Your original assertion that Britain is a ****hole is dumb. Not only that it is highly offensive to those that choose to live in the UK. Obviously all the great things about life in Britain have passed you by. But that is not the case for most of us even if we might moan about it now and again. Nice picture and great for a holiday but unless you are cerebrally challenged then it can get a little boring. Good luck to you and your choices but don't expect everyone to want the same 24/7 for 365 days a year. Just my opinion, as like you I am allowed one too.
