I met my amazing girlfriend in Japan last year. She lives in Singapore, and I've been to see her twice in the last 6 months. We've travelled to Bali, Malacca, and Kuala Lumpur. We speak every day. She really is the most kind, funny, and beautiful girl I've ever met and it all feels a bit surreal but we are making plans for her to move to the UK early 2021.

However.... I'm **** scared. Off to the Philippines week after next to meet her parents and family!

There is mom, dad, uncle, two sisters, two nephews living at home and now I'm visiting, just so happens the other brother and sister also have plans to come home all of a sudden! And I've been given a list of friends she has made plans with.

I feel like I'm going to be centre of attention, and that's not really my style.

Does anyone have any tips for survival, or any funny stories to make me feel better?

Relax, be yourself and don't be a cash machine.
    Enjoy

Luckily she's never asked me for money...

And I won't be taking much money as I spent my savings on a ring for her :)

Most familys in the PI are over the moon when they marry a daughter off to a foreigner, yup, you will be scrutinized from every angle, giggled at by all her cousins, etc, especially if your in some out of the way boonie province or village rather than somewhere like manila where the white man in the family phenomenon isn't such a big deal, enjoy your trip.

There's no getting around the fact that you will be the centre of attention over there.
All the children, and there will be many, will watch you all the time and giggle at many things you do.

Just embrace it as and see how your girlfriend grew up and the way everyone lives very close to each other, in more ways than one.
    Filipinos are very friendly people.
Have fun when you go and soak up all the atmosphere and way of life.
