@oss, How do you come to that calculation? I make it.. carbs 9.5 Minus fiber 4.6= 4. 9. that's for 100 grams of course, over 3.527 ounces.

I was quoting total carbs for a 20g serving Jim, you are right you should be able to subtract the fibre from the carbs to get net carbs which would put it at about 0.9 net carbs for 20 grams.

I mentioned that the fibre content was a bit low which is only in the context that I am using the nuts as a snack specifically to add fibre to my diet and roasted peanuts are better for me for that because they have a lot of fibre in a very small quantity, I eat about 50 to 60 grams worth per day which gets me around about 5g of fibre.

John's point was about the front of the packet having big red warnings about fat and saturated fats but if the fats leave you feeling sated then that's a good thing because you don't stuff yourself full of more sugars because you are still hungry.

Was it the Carb Manager program that you mentioned you were using?

I started using it for recording intake but I use their web application rather than the phone based app, it's pretty good but it is a bit of a job trying to work out whether a food has been accurately defined, I get the impression that some entries are official from Carb Manager and others are from end users but not all of the end users know what they are doing and they often get the quantities wrong and thus get the macronutrient metrics wrong as well.

You would be correct to deduct the fibre if you lived in the USA. However, food labelling is different in the UK. Here, the fibre element has already been deducted, so you need to look at the total carbs. In the USA the fibre is not deducted on the label, so in USA and maybe the Philippines? you would be correct in deducting it and using net carbs.

I think that in the USA and maybe the Philippines they spell it fiber and it is not deducted from the total carbs figure.

In the UK we spell it fibre and it is already deducted from the total carbs figure.

I did wonder about that from a label standards viewpoint in the UK.

I think I have found exceptions in the past though, if I find one I will post.

    Possibly.

Sometimes on U.K. packets you will see the fibre content is greater than the carb content listed. So it kind of proves it’s already been deducted.

Yes, I don't use it any more. 20 net carbs is my max and I average about 10-15 carbs. I almost eat the same foods everyday.
I'm going to have a full health test next month, I will post the results.

It will be interesting to see. I suspect your blood sugars will be super low. They use a different system in the USA so am expecting the result to be in %.

It is proving to be the case overwhelmingly that doctors / GPs when congratulating patients on their improvements can be surprised at how it has been achieved or very disparaging of the method but are forced to accept the result. :D But this varies enormously from GP to GP in this country and abroad.

One of the reasons myself and Mrs Ash don’t go Keto is to give more of a breadth to available food choices. But home baking using low carb ingredients helps a lot.

    Good luck with the tests!

An interesting slant on a weight loss journey.

“My advice is based on what worked for me. I would never advise anyone to stay off the scales.
The scales are your friend and not your enemy.
Here's my reason for saying this...
If you are on a weight loss journey everything good or wrong that you do produces a result.
    Your weight will
    ● Drop
    ● Increase
    ● Remain the same
Because our meals can vary and if we are new to this new way of eating we need to know if we are making the right decisions regarding our food choices.
I have been on OMAD and beyond for 23 months and lost 9 stones in the first 12 months. I have maintained my weight loss up a bit then down a bit. I keep an eye on my food and an eye on my scales. I documented my journey weighing myself daily and recording my weight. I also made notes if I had eaten something that I shouldn't have. I was able to see that different foods and combinations (like adding lots of FAT to my diet caused me to stop losing weight)
By keeping an eye on my scales and an eye on my food DAILY, I cultivated good habits and avoided disappointments.
I was losing a stone every month...I could see it coming off me.
If I had only weighed myself weekly or monthly I wouldn't have known when I made a good or a bad decision.
    That worked for me.
If my weight increased by a 1 lb I understood it could be a blip because it could go down 2 lb the next day. On the other hand if it increased daily or remained the same, I would only need to look back over 2 or 3 days to see what I had been doing or eating. I always found the answer and fixed it. That's how I lost 9. I still weigh daily and keep my journal and this has enabled me to maintain my weight for 16 months.”

Eating the same things every day gets boring eventually having some variety makes a big difference psychologically but I know what you mean, I'm having bacon and eggs every day.

Yeah your results will be interesting!

I put on a kilo this morning. We went to a friends who was having a party on the beach, whilst having watched what I ate I couldn't resist the chicken cordon bleu and the tuna bakes. Also I only drank water I must add.
I'm still in ketosis I can tell with the dry throat and smelly breath lol. I still think It is important to weigh oneself every morning at the same time after using the toilet, to keep track think what you ate yesterday.

No. I was quoting a guy that has lost an enormous amount of weight, very quickly. However he does eat only one meal a day. Having said that he makes it a good one and a low carb one.

What I found interesting in his message was the rationale behind recording meticulously his weight etc every day. It is something you do, Oss but something I don’t do. But I do see the merit in it.

For me and Mrs Ash this has been a struggle. But one we have dealt with with our eyes on the prize. It takes preplanning, imagination and some home cooking. I spend a lot of time keeping my eye out for ideas. There are a lot of ideas out there, we just need to adjust a little as we go.

    Made these today:

Chocolate raspberry and pistachio nut bark.

You can mix up this simple ketogenic diet recipe in under 10 minutes.

Combine raspberries, pistachios and 85% chocolate for a great low carb chocolate treat.

Good old Bangers and Mash. (Mrs Ash prefers chipolatas). But the mash was made with celeriac. It really tasted like mashed potato. And very low carb in content.

We try and vary our breakfasts a bit. The core breakfast revolves around sausage, egg and bacon but we don’t often have all 3 every day. Then we will have a slice of toasted Hovis Nimble and / or some fried mushrooms. Maybe half an avocado or we add some cheese or ham. That way we keep the carb content low though not low enough to achieve ketosis. Mrs Ash is losing weight this way albeit more slowly.

We both agree and many others agree that our cooked breakfast keeps us full for a considerable number of hours.
