So you have to renew your card IF you are not going to apply for British citizenship. Again, the status is Indefinite. It is only the card that has to be renewed. But if you will apply for citizenship, you won't need it anymore.

You can apply for citizenship as soon as you've lived in the UK for 5years and have ILR status.

... and was not out of the UK on the same date (to the day) exactly 3 years previous. The rule that you mention, 5 years and ILR is applicable for the majority of us here, those married to a British citizen. Those who are not have to wait an additional year after ILR is granted.

Yeah, I was pertaining to that. Is she not married to a British citizen?

Yes I think so. I was merely stating the fact that there is different criteria between those married to UK citizens and those who are not. :)

My wife's English is dreadful but I'm sure it will be good enough for the test - Go to the British Council site - they give you some examples to download there.

Hi does anyone know what the next exam is and where we can book it for the 2nd spouse visa extension? My wife is here on her 2.5 years spouse Visa but we need to know what's the next one.

Are you on the five year route (so next Visa is Indefinite Leave to Remain) or the ten year route?

Shes been granted spouse Visa for 2.5 years. I thought you had to extend it for another 2.5 years before applying for ILR.

This is confusing. Please can you be clear on this?

We have one spouse Visa granted for 2.5 years. I am assuming we are on 5 year route but her Visa was granted for 2.5 years.

1st spouse visa which she is on now is A1 English test.

Further leave to remain which is the next visa application is A2 visa

ILR which is 5 year point is b1 English test

Not the only English test provider but useful explanation

And the official UK gov site

I've just submitted my own wife's first FLR application and she took the A2 exam a couple of month's ago in preparation; she already had the A1 'Life Skills' certificate which was required for her first Leave to Enter Visa.

However, when filling in the online application for her FLR it asks if she's passed an English Language test, then asks:

"Did the test assess your speaking and listening skills at a level equivalent to CEFR A1 or higher?"

No mention that A2 is required, even though anyone who has checked the Home Office website and other sources knows that A2 is needed.

Very poor as anyone starting their online application will be misled.
