I am delighted to be able to join a new political party whose key membership aren't university PPE or liberal arts graduates, Bullingdon Club yahoos, illiberals or Marxist dreamers: they've all had real jobs, many serving their country in the armed forces and sound practical common sense will be very much to the fore.

The UK Veterans' and People's Party's policies are straightforward and sound; they include:
    • They support Trident as a deterrent but they would support a worldwide nuclear amnesty if it was ever agreed.
    • Slashing politician's salaries, hold them accountable for their actions and fix things using 'common sense and plain English'
    • A tougher stance on immigration using a points-based system
    • Deprivatising the NHS, cuts in senior management roles, matrons back on wards and discounting pharmaceutical drugs so that patients get the medication they need easier and cheaper
    • Upgrade the Ambulance Service to an 'emergency' service - it's currently classed as an 'essential' service - and provide centrally funding to relieve the strain on the NHS
From what I've read, I like what they have to say - a breath of fresh air, you could say. But you may not like that it would seek to reintroduce the death penalty. The reasoning behind that is contained in this interview with one of its key figures.

Are there any more common sense policies? I haven't disagreed with a single one of them, and for some of the crimes committed in Britain, I'd be happy to have the job of pulling the lever - no objection to the death penalty.

Check out the Forum where there appear to be discussions covering all the main policy areas. This is a brand new party and only went "public" a few days ago so there's not a lot there as yet. But the signs are promising.

Impressive, that is a machine reading an article and it does it very well with a couple of small exceptions but those exceptions may just be grammatical issues in the text they fed into it.

Everyone has a right to representation and a vote. Not sure they will fix the deficit or attract talented people to be MPs though

Why? Do you think only graduates with PPE degrees are capable of becoming MPs? It is the career politicians that have given politics a bad name and everyone has grown to hate them, regardless of party. The only generally well-liked and indeed the most successful politician ever (since Churchill) is Nigel Farage - like him or despise him, he has achieved what he set-out to achieve; who else can lay claim to that?

There are veterans throughout the UK and almost certainly in every one of the 650 constituencies. Remember: your hero doesn't have a PPE degree, in fact he doesn't have any kind of degree, having left school at 18 with two E-grade "A" levels. He certainly has never served his country unlike veterans who have already served their Queen and country once and will not shirk from doing so again.

Nigel? He is one of the lads. And enjoys a pint. The nation loved him.

Why do you keep going on about the privately educated spiv Farage ? he must be the most successful person at failing to be elected of anyone outside of the Monster Raving Looney party. Shouldn't he be the "generally well-liked and well-despised least successful wannabe MP". Many MPs are not PPE graduates, in fact most are not including comrade Corbyn who came through the trade union movement. 26 MPs have science degrees and more MPs do not have degrees than a PPE as far as I can tell. So one should say why is our Parliament so uneducated.

I see that personal attacks are the new norm here and is both an unwelcome and wholly unnecessary development in my estimation. No wonder there's an exodus of moderates who used to post here regularly.

You claim Nigel Farage "must be the most successful person at failing to be elected" - - really? Are you sure about that? You are of course absolutely, utterly and completely wrong: he is and has been a MEP since 1999, making him one of the longest serving MEP, if not the longest serving. He is also the leader of the EFDD Group in the European Parliament, hence his seat in the front row of the chamber.

    You said earlier:
Before entering the political fray, Farage was a Commodities Broker so perhaps you'll explain how he "made his money on the back of the taxpayer" and provide a link or two to support your assertion.

There are times when I really hope this government collapses and Corby emulates his Marxist idols, Chavez and Maduro especially, turning Britain into a basket case economy well within 5 years. Brexit will still go ahead, of course, as it necessary for his programme of nationalisation and state support of industry but there's unlikely to be a trade deal with the US or with anyone else with the exception of Venezuela, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Uruguay; maybe Mother Russia, too. With rises in Corporation Tax and Income Tax and VAT having to be at least doubled to pay for Labour's largesse, the burden will fall on you and all the other "just about managing" citizens to cough-up the readies; the rich entrepreneurs will be long gone. And it will be people like me, clients of the state, who won't be adversely affected one iota, we may even benefit - until, that is, the money runs out. By that time, the country will have sunk into oblivion and be an irrelevance in the world.

In what way is Max's post a personal attack?

Ah, the "snowflake" defence when there is no actual argument. PLease show any personal attack. I may call an opinion stupid but rarely would I be so disrespectful as to call a person stupid. Or is that an attempt to smear my reputation?

He takes MEP salary and allowances which is part of our £8 billion a year we pay to the EU. Obvoiously there is much dodgy about the "allowances" but thats too boring to go into. Do you really need alink or can we take that as fact. Also look at his attendance record. I beleive he is the spokesperson on fisheries for his group yet hardly ever votes. So much for the British fishermen.
