There have been rumours recently about Queen Elizabeth abdicating soon. Was doing some research about the monarchy with my son tonight (I am not a Royalist BTW) and we learnt that Prince Charles could immediately abdicate and William would be king. I can't see Prince Charles abdicating after waiting so long.
Love the monarchy, go to Windsor maybe once a month for a coffee, normally (pre-covid) swamped out with wall-to-wall tourists, don't think Charles is king material however
I can't see either events happening. For one thing does Charles really want to kick his son in the teeth that hard, it's a curse not a blessing. And I can't see Elizabeth choosing to effectively retire, I truly believe she sees it as a god given duty. I understand the arguments around the monarchy but for me I would continue to support it as far as William and if I lived long enough to see if his son showed character and responsibility I might support it further.
