When I was there for the first time I feel awkward calling people (especially older people) with their first name. To me, it sounds like I am not respecting them. I only call her mother Audrey, which is very awkward for me.. And you know here in Pinas how much we respect old people, we tend to call them lolo, lola, nanay or tatay even if you are not relatives lol. So I have to get use to calling people by their name.
It's just a matter of getting used to I think. My partners mum is 87 y.o and I call her Audrey, it's like calling a friend or some stranger but that's how things work over there.
If you'll be addressing someone with a Pinoy/Pinay heritage, the terms of endearment/respect is fine such as tito, tita, lolo, lola, kuya, ate, etc. Most will actually like it. But when addressing British people, they might take it the wrong way or feel awkward. My best advice is, just treat everyone equally here. 'How are you today, Audrey? You look lovely as ever.' 9/10 she'll like the greeting.
That's good. She won't have to feel awkward calling them only by name. Saying mum and dad to your husbands parents is quite a good thing. One way to know that they're accepting her and treating her as part of the family
