We would need to re-build Hadrian's Wall. Having such a porous border with Scotland would be intolerable.
Maybe we'd be able to use President Trump's contractors, after they'd finished walling up Mexico.

The very last thing that Salmond and Sturgeon want is a referendum result in favour of Independence - and I suspect that would only be achievable if the rest of the UK also casts votes. The threat of independence was a far better weapon and gave good leverage but the problem now is that the SNP has 'cried wolf' too many times already.

They will face the major problem of having to do without the Barnet Formula Block Grant which ensures that more money is spent on the Scots than on the English and most of that grant originates from taxes paid south of the Border. The Scottish Government has, for a few years now, had the ability to raise its own taxes which both Labour and SNP administrations demanded. But the SNP appears to believe that it would be political suicide to actually raise taxes themselves - far better to blame the Westminster Government for keeping the Scots in supposed penury. Scotland's population is about one tenth of England's but a greater percentage of Scots are 'economically inactive' (Scotland's ageing population problem is more acute than elsewhere in the UK).

Scotland will cease to be in the European Union upon Brexit and Sturgeon knows - but chooses to ignore the fact - that Scotland will not be permitted to (re-)join, certainly in the short to medium term. In any event, Scotland's major trading partner is not to be found in continental Europe but rather south of Hadrian's Wall with Scotland selling far more than it buys. In 2014, Scotland's exports to the rest of the UK stood at £48.5 billion. Exports to EU countries amounted to £9.8 billion whilst those to the rest of the world were a healthy £8.7 billion.

Bring it on, Sturgeon. You may well win but you'll certainly lose!

Trump's contractors would be Mexican, and the contract would be loaded so that the majority of the fee got paid on completion and then he would stiff them once it was built and tell him to sue the USA, I think the contractors might bet on this result as it would be par for the course and build a pretty crappy wall :D
