madness. What right have those idiots got to bring a motorway to a standstill? By all means wave their stupid banners from a roadside..preferably at night in a thunderstorm.

Climate activists are trying to ensure that there will always be a general population.
Continued short-sightedness will not end well.

People will not be able to smell the coffee if the coffee crop fails - From the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-56804147:
Arabica has limited resilience to climate change; farmers are already experiencing the impacts of elevated temperatures and low or erratic rainfall. Other threats to coffee production include price fluctuations, pests and diseases, and extreme weather.

I wonder how much the density of air pollution went up whilst vehicles sat in the jam had their engines running, I wonder how much the air pollution went up with drivers trying to make up time expelling more gases into the air.
I wonder how many warehouse were kept on a busier environment thus using more power due to late deliveries .
I wonder how many commuters went away resenting the protesters because it made them late.
Was the driver right? Was he just demonstrating?
We all know climate change is a serious issue but do we honestly believe Joe,Boris and the rest called a G7 summit based on a few of the unwashed rocking up on the M25.
We as a world would be better placed on say calling for and actioning say a self imposed ban on international travel will that happen no because it like climate change will affects us.

Most companies' units automatically switch off when they idle for a few minutes and the duration of idle time is often sent by telemetry to the transport office. Many companies reprimand their drivers if their vehicle is seen to idle too many times. If there is a traffic jam that lasts a long time, no units will leave their engines running. You know this, John.
I doubt that drivers will speed up and expel much more gases to make up time. We all keep to speed limits and most HGV drivers are trained to drive defensively, not aggressively. If a driver is reported to their company, he/she will be hauled up to discuss their actions.
"Unwashed" is a derogatory adjective and most certainly unwarranted.
Most warehouses can handle late loads, the driver will phone transport to advise them of the delay and transport/planners will notify the customer.
Some drivers will have been inconvenienced but they already know the pitfalls of the transport industry.

The effects of not acting on scientific and ecological warnings outweigh all things.
20 hours ago on the BBC website " Climate change: World now sees twice as many days over 50C - since the 80's"
    That is not 1880
People need to take their blinkers off.

Your right I do know all of what you respond to but as you are well aware not all companies operate with telematics or fleetmaster and the like the major platters such as supermarkets do use them extensively.
You are equally aware that the automatic engine shutdown can be overridden by a gentle tap on the gas keeping the air con up and running fridge trailers will run to temperature settings.will drivers try to make up time of course they will to get home, to preferred truckstop etc ever heard the term " foot down friday" !you are well aware many warehouses operate a timed delivery window miss it and you could end up a refused load costing your company money if your lucky you get accepted and those warehouses that are geared up to do more volume during the day and a lesser volume at night find themselves busier for longer.
Probably para el carriers are the reverse of this as customers want their collections as late as possible.
We all keep to speed limits! Do we? I do I know many who don't and won't often for the same reasons as a above
In my post i said drivers and went on to give examples of drivers as well as warehouses.
The great unwashed I refer to the mindset of those who will protest over anything rather than do a days work if you find it an objectionable phrase so be it.
Your right people need to wake up to this but not one based on hypocrisy of there NIMBY position or hysteria but a true measured approach one that will get the backing of many not the backs up of a few

I hope your optimism on how the world will be in 20 years is right, John.
I cannot share that optimism at the moment.......
