It's a different thing. You don't have to learn Filipino just to adopt in the Philippines... You can live in the Philippines without the need to learn the language.
I'm speaking for the child specifically. He needs to understand the English language better because he is settling in UK & Studying in UK I suppose.

Well good luck with that. Sky - the biggest cable TV company - doesn't carry any UK sports channels and the only British programmes you'll get will be on BBC World News channel - these days that's almost on a par with RT (Russia Today) and Press TV (Iran) whilst CNN is marginally better. Al Jazeera is, IMO, the best news channel available in Phils.

Is the "Star" channel best for sports in the Philippines, I know I used to watch F1, darts and football on that channel, I got the impression they showed a lot of the Sky coverage.

Star is based in Hong Kong and its sports coverage used to be quite good. I'm not 100% sure but I *think* Star Sports is only available as an extra with Sky Cable. (Sky Cable is NOT the same as Sky in UK/Europe; I wish it were!)

For tv I suggest looking into kodi, from this you can load "apps" that will allow your wife ans stepson to watch philippine tv shows. As for tv in the philippines, its dreadful

    I
I am in Davao at the moment and quick scan of TV channels available in the apartment we are renting includes, CNN, Al Jazeera, Fox News, Star Movies, HBO, MTV, Nat Geo, Fox Movies, CineMax, CNN HD, RTL, Animal Planet, Nat Geo Wild, Discovery, History, Fox Sports, Fox Sports2, Fox Action Movies plus several other English language channels. Not too bad, I need to check into streaming solutions for F1 and EPL, but there are several options, some of which I already use in Dubai.

I agree 100% that there is a need to learn the language, especially for the son, but come on, surely he and mum are entitled to see some TV in their own language and channels of their own culture. They don't stop being Philipino because they moved to a new country. If that is the case, why are there so many threads about finding Philipino communities to meet up with?

That sounds like the standard Sky Cable channel line up. If you want to stream video, you would be best advised to get PLDT to install its fibre-optic solution - it is available in central Davao. Anything else you will fall foul of "fair usage" clauses and your connection will be throttled at around 1 Mbit (at best) even if you are paying for a faster connection.

I know that there is some ABS-CBN broadcast in the internet - specifically via Facebook - as my wife is hooked on Pinoy Big Brother o_O

Thanks for the heads up Markham. When we move here full time next year, I will certainly check that out. I know that PLDT are planning to install fibre where I am building our house but not sure of the time frame.

Not sure what the connection is here in the rented apartment. I did a speed test and getting about 1MBps download. Not great but enough for me to stream The Grand Tour via Amazon Prime, albeit not in HD.
