Hi there..Can anyone here suggest how much pocket money I should take with me on my travel to UK? And estimated total expenses starting from paying the travel tax at NAIA.. I am a bit anxious since I can only use cash..My debit card has no international logo so I can't use it.

How longs a piece of string?

Depends entirely on your intentions on how much to take with you, remember you can always bring the money back you don't spend.

Does your debit card not have any MasterCard or Visa logo on it?

I think it is worth to mention that there are a limits on the cash you can travel with. ;)

Philippine Travel Tax is ₱1,620 which you may need to pay at the Tieza Desk and, apart from any snacks or drinks, should be your only expense as Terminal fees are no longer payable at NAIA.

There is a declaration required for more than 10,000 Euros from a non-Eu country.

I thought that "pocket money" was a shilling a week.

Maybe I am behind the times.

It depends where in the UK. UK is vast. Also for how long?

I'll tell you kabayan about London instead.

With food, if you'll go for takeouts/takeaways, you could get by 5 pounds a day or less depending on the restaurant/fastfood.

Buy an oyster, Zone 1 to Zone 6 and you could travel minimum 1.50 pounds to anywhere.

Accommodation, if you still don't have any, the cheapest hotel you could get is around 20. Around South or East London. Cheaper still if you're going to share room with someone.

To be safe, a hundred pounds or more per week.

But if you're living outside the main cities then cheaper still.

Where are you living in London, under a railway arch ? :D

I spend eighty quid for one meal for me and the wife and we live nowhere near London thankfully :)

If the young lady in question is coming to the UK on holiday then she'll want to push the boat out a little and have a good time, leave her thrifty ways back in the Philippines for a couple of weeks :)

    Hahahah...

Mate, there's a 2-3 pound deal in kebab shop in most places. You get the kebab and a drink.
    So that's for lunch.

But yeah indulge yourself. Forgot you're on a holiday.

    Don't mind me. Hahahah...

    You must be joking........
I think you are doing a great disservice to your kabayan by giving them such a misleading indication about the costs of living in London.

Misleading what? I'm the most honest person here.

Ask the old timers. I'm just giving out advice based on my experience.

The comments on here sum it up. It depends what your intentions/budget are and how you intend to live.

Best cheap food in London, by the way, is a Vietamese Restaurant called Loong Key on Kingsland Road - next to the Geffrye Museum. (Walking distance from Old Street tube).

It's looks basic but you get great food really cheap. It's license free- so if you want alcohol you need to bring your own. I used to eat here with friends quite often when staying in Londona few years back and rarely spent over a tenner!

There are a lot of Vietnamese along that road. It's the last one before the museum if I recall correctly.

My friend from Japan used to always want to go there because she never had much money and you can eat out dead cheap. First time I went there we walked past loads of Vietnamese restaurants and she kept going "Not this one..... not this one" until we got there. Then: "This one". So I've never been in any of the others.

Not suggesting for a minute that you not an honest person. My comment was to the effect that by suggesting that you can live in London for hundred pound a week may lead to visitors believing that this is a normal living expense rather than rock bottom, bargain basement living.

You sir are a very rude man. You have absolutely no idea about me or my spending/saving abilities.

Forgive him, he was not lucky enough to be born British and therefore struggles to get his true feelings across, or I hope that's the reason :)
