We've already had lots of controversy at this World Cup; Migrant worker fatalities and LGBT. Now: Germany’s players covered their mouths for a World Cup team photograph on Wednesday in protest at being blocked from wearing an anti-discrimination armband. https://www.independent.ie/sport/so...-fifa-ahead-of-world-cup-opener-42167576.html
Covering their mouths that solved a lot eh oh, good old German word when they were beat schadenfreude
There have now been numerous controversies, from the German one as posted, the banning of the Welsh bucket hats, the Iran team not singing their national anthem reporters told to remove armbands. It will go on and on and doesn’t bode well for when the hosts bow out.
If they were really serious, I mean REALLY serious about discrimination in the UAE they would have refused to play instead of a ridiculous 2 minute hand over mouth photo opportunity while still pocketing the cash
Of course the biggest controversy awaits at the presentation of the cup, what will the Germans do if they win?
Put their hand over their mouth BUT take the cup and the cash, selling their morals, as I said its not THAT serious for them just a virtue signalling empty gesture
The Argentina v Saudi and Germany v Japan were very exciting games, John! Why haven't you watched any yet?
I think they are overhyped prima Donna's, but, it still applies, virtue signalling empty gesture, if you have true principals you stand by them, they don't really believe in that dumb hand over the mouth gesture, they believe in the cash, but they have to pay lip-service so hand over the mouth it is
For a sportsperson who has played for their clubs for years, playing for their country at the World Cup is the pinnacle of their careers, so not playing is a non-starter.
