I know this as come up a few times before, but we will need to renew the wife's passport soon and changing the name to her married name.

    I have looked here :http://londonpe.dfa.gov.ph/consular-matters/passport

As far as I can see we just need the old passport plus copies, application form, marriage certificate and fee. No appointment neccessary.

    Anything else we should know?

Also, what is the fee? I couldn't see it on that page.

Out of interest has the 10 year Philippine passport come into being yet, I read that the validity was being changed from 5 years to 10, I don't know when though?

Don't know, but 5 years is far too short. It's annoying.

Do we need to provide photos or do they do that at the embassy?

You need to take your own pictures and plenty of copies of the application from what I remember, they seem to like lots of copies in the Philippines :)

One thing to remember, it took us nearly 3 months from application to receive the passport.

Good point, the passports are issued in Manila, they probably just send the application off to Manila for processing, cuts down on fraudulent applications I assume that's the reason they want you to attend in person at the Philippine Embassy in London.

I'm sure you will enjoy a couple of days in London when your time comes around :)

its the sheer waste of money i object to. a day trip to the smoke will cost a fortune---more than i spend on beano comics in a year.

It is expensive, we stopped at Club Quarters a stones throw from the Embassy and it cost a bob or two for a couple of nights and the rooms were not that special to be honest.

If nothing else there is no better place to go for the snap happy Filipino, we enjoyed it for two nights, that's enough for me really. When it comes round to your loved ones passport renewal maybe you could avail to the outreach program.

I said to the missus just the other night that we would stop in Windsor next time we need to do business in London and get the train in, that's quite a pleasant place although its still quite expensive for accommodation.

I don't know why they can't do it online. Needs a day off work as well.

We're hoping to go to Germany in March/April so I guess we need to sort this out soon.

Oh, whilst I remember, you need to take with you a stamped addressed envelope for the return of the new passport, I just went to the PO and got them to weigh the envelope with the passport in to get the correct postage for special delivery.

A word of advice for people planing to do this. My wife's passport was refused yesterday because, although we had the documentation steted on the application form, we never had an NSO approved marriage certificate.

This was despite getting married in the UK and having it previously registered in The Philippines.

Pretty annoying, because when we phoned later to find out exactly what we needed we were told that the documentation we had would normally be accepted. So I wasn't overly impressed to say the least.

But, anyway, anyone planning to change the name in their wife's passport to their married name would be advised to get a marriage certifiace from www.ecensus.com.ph in case you get the same problem.

Shame it was refused because of that. But thank you for the heads up. I'm sure this will be helpful to others :)

Sorry to hear that Graham, please explain further, what is the process of getting a NSO marriage certificate when you married in the UK.

We just submitted the marriage certificate given at the RO when we married and that was that.

I'm a little confused why this has happened, surely to God the embassy would put something about this on their website about this new rule.

We renewed my wife's Philippines passport in Dubai just this month. We also had her name changed to mine. The application was made online and the new passport was back in 4 weeks. I can confirm that the validity is still just 5 years. We opted to collect the new passport from the consulate but having it delivered by courier was an available option. Yes to change name you need NSO certified copy of the marriage certificate.
