I don't understand. Have you got the NSO certified marriage certificate with you? I already reported our marriage a couple years ago through their Outreach program, hence, I provided it when I tried to renew my passport and change to married name. However, they won't let me have it changed to my married name because apparently, I have to go to the ecensus website and request for it. What's going on? Are they being inconsistent?

Oh, and another thing, I was told, I should've renewed my passport back then. I was like, 'I still got 3 more years left at the time, why should I renew it?' Kaloka

Not sure what's going on. I went there to report our marriage. I wasn't thinking to renew my passport/change my surname because I did not have the NSO marriage certificate. I was about to leave when I approached one of the ladies. One of them said that I could renew it and I couldn't. I was confused and made me wanting more infos. I went to the counter and asked the guy and the woman. Two of them said I could renew it/change my name as well. The lady said "if you report your marriage today and renew your passport next time, we would ask for the NSO marriage certificate, however, if you do it the same day, we wouldn't be needing the one from NSO". Honestly, I don't know the difference. Maybe it's a case to case basis.

After they took the photo upstairs I came down, still feeling confused, I asked the guy again at the counter. I even said "kuya sorry, I'm a nuisance but I just want to ask can I really renew my passport without the NSO marriage certificate? Because to some people they had it when they renewed their passport to married name" then he replied "okay na yun, sinulat ko naman sa application mo na may report of marriage na kasama". (that's okay, I mentioned on your passport application that the ROM form is attached).

Hopefully , it will be alright. Otherwise, I just use my existing passport when I renew my BRP next year.

Yes you should have back then. It is because, if you want to change your name into married name, they renew your passport as a whole thing. They just don't change the name.

Did they ask you to renew your passport on the day you reported your marriage?

@jasmine16 the best thing is do it at same time, report of marriage and change of passport to your new surname,
*if married in less than a year by the time you report your marriage and apply for changing of passport therefore no need the NSO now PSA, Marriage Certificate

in my case i report my marriage last March and collect it after 4working days, during that time the rules haven't change yet i was confident to comeback and apply for changing of passport after the summer, sadly they change the rules last July.
"Should apply online via ecensus for MC", but for me since the PSA office have a branch in my city i sent Authorization letter to my Aunt and get on my behalf, now it's on the way via snail mail, rather than paying 20dollars duh! they are just making money.

    That's what I did.

Also, where did you get the info that if married less than a year, no need for NSO Marriage cert please?

Oh okay. It didn't happen to my friend who reported hers more than a year. In my case, I'll just wait because they told me it was fine.

I have a question. Do I really have to report my marriage in the Philippines? Is it possible to do the report of marriage in the Philippines when we go there next year? My passport will expire in 4 years time so I’m not planning to change my passport yet. Thanks

You have to report it if you are planning to change into married name. Take note you have to pay double the amount if it's past 12 months since you got married. Also, it will take time to get your document back from the Philippines. And if you are applying for your child's 1st British passport, the Passport Office will require you that report of marriage and a letter from the civil registrar general that your marriage is included in the indices of marriage in the Philippines-- even you are married in the UK. Crazy, right? That's the hurdle we are going through atm.
