    Hey there lovely people!!

Since it is already needed to take the English exam for those applying the Visa starting Nov. 2010 onwards. Can anyone suggest a link where to get some tutorials or reviewers for the exam? And also, can anyone also give techniques how to past the exam as well?

This might be a great help for everyone!

    Thanks! :D

    The UKBA site states that,
"In the test, you will need to demonstrate a basic command of English (speaking and listening) at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference Someone assessed at level A1 can understand and use simple, everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
You will not need to demonstrate your reading and writing skills. The minimum standard that you must meet is in speaking and listening at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. "

Here is a sample of IELTS
    http://www.world-english.org/ielts_free_tests.htm

It's Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

I am a native born English speaker, and personally I would not say General IELTS is easy.

If you are academically minded, or need something for a job then IELTS might be OK.
If you are not academic I would personally suggest to try to find an approved centre who can offer something to test you to the A1 level.

If you have no choice the I guess you just need to study some.
Well that's just my opinion for what it's worth.
These tests are quite expensive and some thought should be given to ensure that hard earned money secures best value.

Micawber is correct. I teach and test IELTS at my school and it is NOT easy!! We have over 100 Filipino teachers at school and I doubt that over a handful would pass it!

I agree to this! The centers offering IELTS courses are so expensive. The best option is to keep READING BOOKS, LISTEN ATTENTIVELY to the speaker and COMPREHEND. I bet, this will help everyone who is bound to take the exam :)

    Hello there dennie,
I don't know when you will plan to take the English Language test, but there is plenty of info to be had. We can all help with different test and test centres etc.
Yeah, all the tests are expensive. About P7000 - P8500 in Phils. In UK the costs are about £100 - £150

Please take a look here, it may be useful for you (and others) I don't think it's been put up anywhere else here:-
    http://www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/general-english/fce.html

You will see that there is a test called First Certificate in English (FCE) which sounds interesting, meets the UKBA requirements and is available at the British Council in Phils.
Other study courses conducted include KET, PET and BEC and all are calculated as level A1.

    dennie,
IELTS is far above A1 level.
A1 level is very very basic.
Just reading your posts on here I would say you are already above A1 level English Language.
Whatever test you take will cost you around P7000 - P8500
I think you need to just find a test centre that offers a test at reasonable cost, close to where you live. I would say that you probably don't need any special study, maybe just a review if your self-confidence needs a boost.
I've heard a lot of good reports about Study Connect, look here:-

I have no connection with them whatsoever, why not give them a call.

Or give the British Council a call per my previous post.

    Just trying to help

    This seems an interesting place...

    http://www.english-test.net/

Thousands of free on-line tests and you can also join a forum and upload your speaking results for forum users to comment - all for free!

They are also promoting some paid-for PDFs, but I think you can use much of the site for free; you can certainly do many tests for free (without registration). Registering on the forum just means disclosing your e-mail address.

Would ESOL, TESOL or TEFL be okay as well? It might be cheaper than IELTS and IELTS is more difficult I think... how much IELTS grade should one have to say that you pass the A1 test?
