Well we stayed in the penthouse at Marco Polo yesterday as a little treat before our return home which is fast approaching. As soon as we checked in I had access to their Wi-fi which I noticed was rather quick in comparison to other Wi-fi in which I had attempted to upload a 4-5 min 4K video (3+ gig) to YouTube with very slow success. I decided to check out their connectivity. The download was consistent whenever I tried a speed test, always 51meg up/down. The provider seemed the business to with what seemed great support. This sort of connection is generally for businesses. I think the 50meg connection was the fiber50 @ 10k php pm.
I had PLDT 20 meg 'unlimited' Fibre installed at our shack yesterday. Getting 26 up and 27 down, 12 ping, at present.
Oh that’s pretty decent. I seen the setup here at Asawas families home. The Smart box/antenna mounted on a mast on the top of the roof.
That's like our 'old' set-up... which I've retained, as backup. The new Fibre system is hard-wired to the house...as per UK.
I thought this was hardwired at first as I was showed a cable (rj45/LAN connector) going into the the router. Then I was told the cable comes from the primary router upstairs which goes the the roof antenna. Getting straight answers isn’t always easy. I’ll upload a pic of the router downstairs. They use 2 routers as the Wi-fi signal is pants apparently.
I done a speedtest and I’d say averaging 5mb peaking to about 7.5mb download, maybe 1.5mb upload. So UK speeds about 8 years ago. Edit: having checked my IP on the forum here it says I’m on Sky Cable. They do have Sky here so I dunno the ins and outs of the setup here? Are Sky and broadband two separate entities here? Edit: Seems the Broadband is provided by Sky according to Speedtest.net
Don't know about Sky, but my 'old' wifi router has an external antenna wire leading up to a directional antenna atop a 10 metre bamboo pole. I use a Smart SIM in the router, as their signal is strongest here.
From memory, the Marco Polo has both Sky Cable and PLDT broadband with Sky providing TV and internet to the guest rooms and PLDT is used by the hotel for its own uses which may well include the hotel's pricier suites. Cebu was the second city PLDT fibered and Davao is the third; Manila being the first.
Our new PLDT fibre router is a Huawei 'EchoLife HG8145V GPON Terminal' . We're about 3 miles out of the nearest town, but PLDT generously decided to string a fibre cable along the country road next to our humble shack.,, and when two charming young ladies came a-knocking for my custom, it was difficult to say no.
Ohh...How the other half live! There is PLDT cable here but it`s only for businesses and not pleb jungle dwellers like us.
I'm a jungle-dweller too Boots. Just that PLDT decided to run a wire down our road. Still can't believe it. Must be somebody important living along here somewhere. lol .
