Please check official advice and guidance for UK Citizenhsip on the gov website (https://www.gov.uk/british-citizenship) This is only based on my own experience so you may need different documents or additional documents for your application.

For those asking here are the documents I submitted for my citizenship application. This is the easiest application that you’ll do on your visa journey. Fairly straightforward and not as many documents needed unlike previous applications.

These are the following documents I submitted:

Applicant Passport (both expired and new)
    Applicant BRP
    Applicant B1 Certificate
Applicant Life in the UK Test Certificate
    Applicant short note
    Sponsors Passport
    Marriage Certificate
    Referee 1 Declaration
    Referee 2 Declaration

(This is from the Home Office Website)

“Both of your referees should have known you personally for more than 3 years. They must not be:

    your relative
    your solicitor or agent
    employed by the Home Office

    Your referees should include:

a person who has 'professional standing' - for example, a civil servant of any nationality
a person who is a British passport holder and either has professional standing or is over the age of 25.”

My 2 referees are both my Filipino friends (they both have British passport) who have known me for 5 years. One is a nurse and the other one is a support worker.

I submitted my application on the 14th of June and got my email confirmation that my application was successful on the 15th of July.

The e-mail confirmation from the Home Office will tell you how to go about your citizenship, they will direct you to your local council to book your citizenship. I called my local council to book an appointment and it was fairly straightforward.

You attend your citizenship appointment and then you will be given a Naturalisation Certificate on the same day which you can then use to apply for a British passport.

It is very rewarding once you get your citizenship, all your hardwork and all that £££ spent in those 5 years are all worth it and has finally paid off.

All the best to you all.

    Congratulations @Brom27 -

If you don't mind me asking, how long was it between you getting your ILR approved and getting British Citizenship?
