I back calculated my total cost against the amount of peso my money bought to arrive at the real effective exchange rate which on the 24th of March was 58.94 peso.

So that's my effective rate it accounts for all fees, I then said how much would £20 buy at that rate, which was 1,178 peso and that was at the worst rate I've had recently and that was March.

On the 24th of April my real effective rate was 61.59 which represents 1,231 peso for your wife's £20 bank fee.

WorldRemit's fees change all the time, in March it was £1.49 for about £525 but it's always way cheaper than a bank overall.

I also use Transferwise todays rate is 61.57 and the fee to send £100 is £1.36 so for £100 they will receive 6078 Php , its a first class service and never been any problem.

When they first arrived on the scene they didn't support PHP and from memory there was at that time a credit check which would have caused me problems, but I agree that is a good rate and fee, WorldRemit would net 6040 for a price of £102.99 today against TransferWise at 101.36.

Later this year I will take a look at TransferWise.

This sounds like the same way I work it out. If I want to send 20000 pesos what's the overall cost, exchange rate plus fees

I used http://remit.ly/abybrl I only pay £2.99 for remittance. They also offer good exchange rate for first time user costumer with maximum money you send to the Philippines without paying for remittance fee for first transaction.

I have been using world-remit but I can't use it no more, I changed my address with my UK bank to a Filipino address and world-remit has my old UK address on their site. can't change it so I'm screwed.
How can I send money from my UK bank to a my bank in the Philippines? Don't forget I live over here!

What happens when you try to use it, are they presenting the address they have on file and the card company is rejecting it because it does not match?

Jim is in the Philippines trying to send money from his own UK bank account to himself, the issue he could have is that TransferWise might not allow registrations from the Philippines and from Philippine addresses, so he might not be able to sign up.

It does need registration in order to use and will need ID.

I got interested in them a long time ago because it was started by one of the original Skype people not sure if he was a software dev or not but Skype was a very elegantly designed system and I trust this guy as he was there right at the start of Skype.

What was the timeline Jim, when did it last work and when did you have to change your address on the UK bank account.

Also are you using a card payment method as in your UK debit card or are you using one of the direct from bank methods I can't remember what they are called.

edit: also WorldRemit have very good support people it is worth calling them although I realise that might not be cheap.

Yeah, I used skype to chat to them. I could use a bank to bank transfer, not sure what their rates would be.

last time I used world-remit was two months ago and I changed my address about one month ago, must be the change of address causing the issue.

I could call world-remit on skype.

That's pretty bad. On 30 April TransferWise would have given you 63.5 and a fee of 1%.
