The dreaded silence and it's explanation.
Be prepared for this when you meet a Filipina.

yep. the stoney silence which makes you wonder what you said..or not said. done or not done.

we had words about it some months back. facts of UK life for a dependant non-EU immigrant on a 5 year settlement route were explained. did the trick.

This is so true. I'm guilty :D:p My hubby would freak a lil and ask me, "Why don't u talk to me?? Now you're giving me silence again?!" :D:D

For the men on here who have married a Filipina, we all know about this but it is quite (read very) difficult for men who have just met a Filipina.
Incidently, Filipino men also exhibit tampo when their wives have cheesed them off too. Perhaps men do this less because men are generally less emotional than women.

Dont get much tampo off asawa, think she’s realised it doesn’t have the desired effect. Anyhow no time for tampo, kids make sure of that :)

Yes menchu_edge, it is very hard for western men to cope with this at the beginning of the relationship.

Kids don't stop it in our house, Paul, but as the years go by the frequency of it occurring is diminishing, thankfully.

Indeed but we wouldn’t have it any other way would we Mike. As you know ours are a bit younger so slightly different at the moment. They’re well behaved so mustn’t complain really.

You’re right about tampo though, very disconcerting in the beginning.

Does it spread from mother to offspring?

I'd guess from mother and father. It is a cultural phenomenon.

The British equivalent is to 'send someone to Coventry' an old phrase that some younger folk might not be familiar with.

Me and Ana are well beyond Tampo, we do the screaming and shouting thing, too much water under the bridge.

Unfortunately she will be back when I go over, I am seriously thinking about getting a cheap hotel about half a mile from the house as I don't want my children subjected to the madness.
