Will it stop them getting thrashed by USA league sides though?

Great player. Maybe not so great a manager.

Whoever coaches the national side is on a hiding to nothing. Best they can do is scour lower leagues in Europe and America for Filipino eligible players.

Like most SE Asian countries, there's no long term plan with the national team. They just want to perform well in regional SEA championships which is essentially a crapshoot.

As managers go, Big Terry will do as good a job as anyone with the talent available. Will be a nice holiday for a year until he is replaced.

I suppose with the shared World Cup and a higher number of partipating countries might give the likes of the Philippines a chance of qualifying... maybe.

Presumably he is revered in Russia?

But didn’t Russia play well in their first game? Didn’t they?

Well I guessed he must be. Or maybe Putin likes him? I presumed so otherwise he wouldn’t have been asked to sing there. It won’t have been because they love the English. :D

Great result for the Russians , and some quality goals .
But some terrible defending , by the Saudi's , it has to be said .

But how about the Portugal / Spain game eh? And Ronaldos hat trick....

And De Gea’s howler. Shades of Rob Green there.

Yes , great game to watch , and confirms why he's considered by so many to still be the best player in the world .

True. And there has been a lot of talk about him returning to Man U and whether for Man U, Gareth Bale would be a better acquisition. On that performance it’s a harder call.

Yes it sounded recently that Ronaldo might be leaving , but maybe he , like Bale has been waiting to see what happens with the new manager .

Bale was unhappy and critical of his lack of playing time under Zidane .

I think both will stay, and see what happens up to January.
