Thanks. I never met Graham in person. Its sometimes said that a Yorkshireman is equally rude to his friends, his wife and his dog. As a Yorkshireman myself I formerly would have disagreed with that, that but after reading many of my departed friends posts I now can appreciate why people might say that. Things ARE quiet tho.... Aren't they?

Yorkshire men are blunt rather than deliberately rude :D

I personally prefer not to stereotype. After all, it would be equally untrue and unfair to refer to all those south of Nottingham as being 'pompous unfriendly shandy drinking southern fops' - although living now in Buckinghamshire I can also see why some people might say that. Perhaps you mean that you feel that this one Yorkshireman in particular wasn't deliberately rude. :)

Sorry. I couldn't think of a satisfying way of carrying on that conversation. Why are your smiley faces green?

Not just any green, a rather fetching shade of verdigris green or similar without a colour chart at hand to pinpoint the exact shade, its a mystery why its that specific colour?

: D is equal to laughing or big smile it has always been green on this site ever since we moved to XenForo about 8 years ago.

: ) is a simple smile and ahs always been yellow.

In both cases leave out the space and you will get the emoji rather than the text.

The world is changing, the reality is that the site was quiet for several years prior to the events of Nov 2019 but it was not so obvious because the site was full of arguments, this year well who can travel, everything is in limbo relationships will be in limbo and with Brexit and the ever increasing expense of the adventure in bringing a foreign partner to the UK I can't see it getting better.

But the site is here for those who need it as long as people are willing to help those on the path and to share their own experience, hopefully it still helps people.

You have to remember that a lot of members never post, not ever, there are many lurkers just reading up on the experiences of others.

Thanks for the information @oss All these years I never managed to make a green smiley. :D
Yes the expense is ridiculous and the uncertainty is... unsettling. By the time this ILR is done I'll have paid more than 20, 000 GBP in visa charges. I find that offensive given I'm just asking the British government for the right to live with my wife and step kids and I find it doubly annoying that if I was actually European and not British, that I could achieve the same for a few hundred quid. That doesn't seem fair to me. I wonder how fair it will all feel after Brexit... Dreading it to be honest.

Yes it is disgusting, they won't be profiting from these fees, the only thing behind the fees is to reduce immigration, and it is likely working when it comes to spouses, and what proportion of total immigration is spouse visas, it is deliberately vindictive.

For info, those keyboard strings : D :D and : ) :) and also ; ) ;) will all work in most messaging apps and all text messaging on phones.

My entire repertoire of emojis are the ones I can type, i keep it simple, those three and combinations of them are enough to my mind, I rarely ever select from the menu.

Although do sometimes select  from the menu rather than typing : lol : without the spaces.

Or five years since Choi came to the UK and we joined this forum. My parents weren't kidding when they said life went quicker and quicker...

This was the one that got me. An often repeated claim. I had spent a good number of years in some very challenging countries but that never seemed to count in the eyes of Graham, Boots etc.
