Boots - if you seriously think the congenital liar Trump deserves respect you clearly haven't read a thing about the odious charlatan. The American people are not being well served by this sleazeball.

I'm sure you can find out how Trump may be got rid of - it's clear he's already sailing close to the wind in terms of impeachment.

Worthy of being shown respect? You're having a laugh mate. I respect my neighbour's cat more than that creepy, corrupt, dangerous, madman.

    Jesus wept! :confused::confused::confused:

    Ronald Reagan??!!!

Respectfully suggest you delve a little into his foreign policy.

Propped up fascist dictatorships' in South America - funded right-wing death squads resulting in the deaths of thousands. Worked to destabilise democratically elected government's (El Salvador). Supported Pinochet in Chile (along of course with Thatcher).

Reagan had blood on his hands like all the others.

Whilst there may be points to your post on Reagan I am sure there are,did you miss his performance in attempts to cool the cold war with Gorbachev. By all educated accounts he did ok.

Matt - there is a debate among historians about the extent to which RR's military spending brought about the end of the USSR - or whether it in fact it extended the lifespan of the Cold War. Benevolent commentators recognise the slow rapprochement between RR and Gorbachev - leading to Reykjavik and beyond. I wouldn't necessarily disagree that progress was made here.

However - in my mind - this cannot erase his record as the destroyer of countless lives in South America. CIA funds and covert operations directly caused the death of so many innocents in countries where big business and vested interests exploited the poor underclass.

You'll recall this was done as part of RR's crusade against Communism - with rape / torture / assassination / disappearances commonplace. In truth it was to butress the existing power structures of privilege and wealth.

Focussing on one possible plus point in a record like Reagan's would be akin to someone seeing a positive in a serial killer because he ocassionally gave money to charity.

Gerry as I said in my previous post that "there maybe points and am sure there are" to your post I merely pointed out you had not mentioned his efforts in the cooling of the cold war. To suggest that I concentrated on only one positive is incorrect of you and indeed it was your original post that focused on a negative. My post concedes and offers.
As with any leader there are attractors and detractors as per the attached

Not happy to ignore it at all. I live in the Middle East, Dubai in fact, so I am well aware of what goes on in some Middle East countries and it is sickening. Having said that, do please realize that it is not just middle east countries that cause misery and suffering to its immigrant workers. Several Asian countries including Singapore and also USA have some horror stories that are surfacing recently.

Nile Gardiner said that NATO leaders acted in an "absolutely appalling" way toward President Trump.

Gardiner, an aide to late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, said he was disgusted at leaders who were caught smirking and chuckling during Trump's speech.

He criticized Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel for appearing to laugh when Trump spoke about the need for nations to pay what they owed to NATO.

Gardiner called the actions of Bettel, French President Emmanuel Macron and Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel "absolutely appalling."

They ignore, ridicule Trump at their own peril, for too many years Europe has relied on the US to provide military security, it is only fair that NATO members spend 2% of their GDP on defence.

Love him or loathe him he is still the President of the US and should be treated with more respect, what would happen if Trump said I've had enough and the US will no longer support EU countries in their time of need?

Also looks like Germany`s BMW`s will probably cost 35% more to U.S customers if they are not built in the USA..
Sounds like that factory in Mexico might not be such a good idea anymore!!

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has suggested her country and Europe can no longer rely on the US under Donald Trump.

Speaking at a campaign event in Bavaria, Ms Merkel emphasised the need for friendly relations with the US, Britain and Russia, but added: "We Europeans must really take our destiny into our own hands."

She said that, as the traditional western alliance is threatened by the new US presidency and Brexit, "the times in which we can fully count on others are somewhat over, as I have experienced in the past few days."

While Germany and Europe would strive to maintain relations with America and Britain, Ms Merkel said Europeans "have to fight for our own destiny".
