Is it possible to bring a uk mobile and have it adapted so my wife can use it for outside free facebook, messenger in the PH Has anyone had theirs tinkered with....
tried her smart sim....cannot use facebook or messenger outside when not connected to the net....the phone was unlocked before i came
Not really understanding your question, but any device will need to be connected to the 'net to use FB or Messenger, either by wifi or using mobile data.
Here in the ph....people can access Facebook and messenger free without having to have load. Or connection to the Internet. https://0.freebasics.com/
As far as I'm aware, with a Philippine phone or SIM you get free access to Messenger, not sure about FB but you will still need to connect somehow via wifi or data. AFIK
I have been communicating on Facebook and messenger with her for the last year. She does not have WiFi or connection at her house or even when on the bus. With no data or credit on her sim. All ph phones do this. I just want to know if anyone has had their UK phone adapted to use in the same way here as the phone I brought for her will not connect even with her ph simply.
So....back to my question. Has anyone brought over an unlocked UK phone and had it adapted so it will access free facebook messenger with no load or connection to WiFi.
Because I have a spare phone with me and if it's cheaper to get it adapted than buy a new one then I have saved money
I see. it seems people are of the idea that it's sim related rather than any "adaptation" of the phone. I would agree it must be something sim/network related rather than something you would physically do to the phone. I'm guessing, just like here, when a feature needs to be added, it is generally applied by the relevant network, remotely.
As far as I am aware, it is only Globe that is offering free FB and only then on its full service SIM (not Talk-n-Text) - and there needs to be load though it isn't consumed but does expire, so not entirely free. Smart/PLDT/Sun isn't offering this afaik - and that of my family in Davao.
You can't have Facebook without connection to internet. It is impossible. If they are getting free Facebook then it would come from the supplier, but would still need connection to a network to work. If this can be done just get the relevant SIM and put it in the phone.
my wife uses globe and smart...gets free messenger and facebook (no photos can be viewed) see here : http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2015/03/20/1435536/facebook-offers-free-internet-access-phl
Several times. One iPhone 5 Plus, a Sony smartphone and a couple of cheap Samsung flip phones. All unlocked. Just inserted Globe or Smart sim and they have been good to go. With my own phone, I just swap the sim when I step off the plane and it works just like a local one. When I've lost my sim, I just give my phone to one of her guys at the Smart kiosk in arrivals and ask them to put in a sim with enough data to do Pokemon Go for a week (this is said in a jokey manner). Higher end phones are a bit cheaper in the UK, IME. You can also not be 100% guaranteed that you are getting the real McCoy even if buying cheap Samsungs. I always bring a few UK adapters as chargers bought in Filipino stores can be hit and miss. Some of the local models like Cherry and Star mobile are perfectly adequate for a low cost device. I don't know anyone off the top of my head who has kept one of those phones working beyond 18 months though.
Just tried the unlocked phone from the uk with globe sim (no load) whilst not connected to wifi and it still not connecting to the free messenger service....oh well i give up !
