Was this the Philips base on Salawati, John?

No. We were working for British Gas. Exploratory drilling. I cannot recall where supplies came from but seem to recall they came by river. We flew in and out of Sarong. Then got a second flight to the rig site in the depths of the jungle. The next well was to be on an island off the coast but cannot recall exactly where.

An old film but a good one "To Sir with Love " is currently on the box and is generating lots of questions about that era from my wifes daughter,to say she is engrossed in the film is an under estimate!

That was brilliant, I never knew that Toyah had married Bob Fripp, nor that Bob Fripp played with Bowie.

And I was a fan of Crimson.

    Tut, tut, Jim ;) :D

The "Berlin Trilogy" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Trilogy#1977–78:_"Heroes"_and_world_tour) was an exceptional period of experimentation for Bowie with Fripp, Eno and Belew. I somehow knew about this from reading about Neu! in the NME.

I hired a minibus when I was in the 5th form (1971) in North Wales and twelve of us headed off for the Manchester Free Trade Hall to see King Crimson in concert. None of us had much experience with alcohol and somehow bottles of vodka appeared on the bus.
When "21st Century Schizoid Man" came on we all legged down to the stage and I tripped over someone's outstretched leg, flew through the air and my noggin hit the back of some chairs and knocked myself out. I came to at the end of the track, jumped up and still managed to do a little head shaking

    This is good:

Fripp shredding at 13:50 on "The Sheltering Sky" (also a 1959 book by Paul Bowles).
