Many will know the background but long before I was around in the family my MIL went to the USA to help her sisters children with their children that was in 1994 on a visit visa.
With all the goings on in the States with immigration green cards etc she got missed and overstayed by about 26 years.
This year she decided at the age of 83 she wanted to go back to the Philippines and enroute she wants to see the UK.
Yours truly (me) got tasked with sorting her visit visas out and low and behold she got a successful result today!
She will be here in time for Christmas, much to all our delight.

very rarely happens. How does the applicant prove they have no-one back home to look after them ?

i havent looked at it for a while--but from memory parents of settlers can only be considered if they can prove they are dependant on the son / daughter for their care--and there is no-one back home who can do it. I think the total number of successful applicants for the previous year was barely in double figures ( from all over the world.

    • you need long-term care to do everyday personal and household tasks because of illness, disability or your age
    • the care you need is not available or affordable in the country you live in
    • the person you’ll be joining in the UK will be able to support, accommodate and care for you without claiming public funds for at least 5 years
    • you’re 18 or over
    How long you can

I think that is possible if they apply and say she has no one to take care of her back in the Philippines at her age, I think it should be easy to process.
I know a friend, she claimed no one will look after her mother although she has siblings back home but her siblings are poor and cannot afford to take care of their mother whilst working. They brief her Mum saying she is the only child who has to take care of her mother, and so they applied for her mother to stay with them here and get a residence visa! ;) Seems like they don’t really investigate about it, they trust and take their words they put in writing. :D

It's a special cathedral, I took Ana there in 2010.

I really like your composition in this third one, your mum in law is well placed in the foreground but the lucky staggering of people on the steps works really well.

    Was this today?
