Has the fat lady sung yet? I don’t think so. Not yet. It’s not over till it’s over and it’s not over till everyone is vaccinated. Having said that it is getting better in the U.K. and Europe but that is for the moment. The summer months tend to give us respite. A window where the darned virus is pinned down. And whilst the virus is about even in other countries other than our own, there are chances of other potent strains developing. For now though there is a window of lower risk for those holidaying in Europe. Long may it continue. But it ain’t over yet…

Equally true in 2021 as in 2012!

Why go to Bondi when you can got to Bridlington?

To be honest apart from the seaside, you could be talking about many towns in the UK and usually around where i live its the Landlords that encourage the depredation, hardship and mental health issues because all they want is the rent without providing decent accomodation, this then leads down the road to nowhere including alcholism and drug taking which possibly will lead to future social instability, the gap between the haves and have nots is ever widening, you only have see who owns most of the HMO,s the same people that are involved in dealing they are the same ones driving around in the flashier Cars BMW,s, Audis etc etc we have all seen them around, sorry iv gone off topic and on a rant, but its still europe Hahaha, enjoy your vacation John.

I spoke with a guy from Blackpool last week, he was down here visiting his brother who lives in the village. He told me it's a tired, worn out decrepit version nowadays of the place I used to visit as a kid.

And yet in some respects it’s doing quite well compared with similar seaside towns. But all the same, it’s not the place it used to be. It does still get a lot of visitors from all over and including Scotland. It clearly has had money at its disposal as can be seen in the great work carried out on the promenade. But employment is a problem.

Like many places around the U.K. it has a strong Filipino contingent.

I would hate to travel halfway across the globe seeking a better life to end up somewhere like Blackpool to be truthful, I would feel short changed.

I had never read or heard that acronym before on looking it up I found this House in multiple occupation licence - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

I knew many Scots who were living like that 30 years ago, personally I have always been lucky enough to live in self contained accommodation although I have rented for all but 10 years of my adult life.

HMO is the new buzzword for landlords, I was going to attend a property investment seminar focusing on HMO properties, seems like too much hard work squuzing the last rental penny from a property.

Most work for the NHS or local care homes. I suppose for them it is a better life. But it could be better.

Something I meant to mention yesterday, talking about British workers manning the Liverpool Jollibee. Mrs Ash pointed out that most Filipinos here in the U.K. wouldn’t work for a minimum wage (in Jollibee for example) and in the hospital and care sector earn considerably more. Her observation, not mine.
