Well it appears our France trip will not happen this year, maybe there will be a change before we are due to leave so the backup plan for spring next year is bought forward[IMG]

Long way north that. I used to think Aberdeen was remote enough and on that basis, Inverness and Cromarty were in the back of beyond. I once drove from Aberdeen to Elgin (when I was living in Aberdeen) just to see what it was like and it was miles and miles of fields like you don’t see in England. I also did spend a few days camping in Loch Rannoch one year.

My wife has friends way up there. Her Filipina friends husband prefers it up there - Lairg. They live next to a lake and he loves the fishing.

The A9 is like a journey to the land that time forgot, Caithness is that land, desolation in the winter, my cousin and her family still live there, different sort of lifestyle.

back in the early 70's i was with wife#1 and daughter; living here on the isle of wight. car was a recent--from new citroen GS 1 litre thing. we drove up to birmingham to stay with my parents. after a few days--on to glasgow to stay with wifes granny. next day decided to pop up to john o groats--none of us had been before. went via the forth bridge--took my breath away first seeing that.
got as far as Tain--getting dark--stayed the night in a hotel. next day--to groats. lunch in thurso--a tradional chinese restaurant. back to tain for 2nd night.
day 3 back to glasgow from tain--via caledonian canal and fort william

scary stuff in those days--but i was fearless.

You've not had a lot of luck this year for your holidays.

No we haven't but continue to juggle our short term plans.
Hopefully France may be put back into the front but I doubt it so Scotland is brought forward six months and France will join up with Spain in spring

One thing I used to do a lot was fly north by helicopter from Aberdeen often parallel to the coast, turning east at Fraserborough or continueing on up to John O Groats then up over the Orkneys etc. It was like riding a drone (with camera) as the coastline was so impressive.

I'm not sure I would have wanted to do that part of Scotland in January or February, pretty dark for most of the day, but I do hope things have changed enough for foreign travel to be possible next year.

I was actually contemplating the rocks under the ladies feet. And had been reading about the rocks on the summit. I typically look at landscapes etc as an opportunity to think about how they were formed and what’s beneath the surface.

No passport checks at the Welsh border. The weather hasn’t been so great but it’s a holiday:

Day 5 of our staycation in North Wales. Not such a great idea. Weather has been awful. Plus places of interest are fully booked or overrun with people owing to Covid 19. And eat out to help out means it’s a struggle finding places to eat. Its been a bit of a nightmare.

Fantastic day at the Kelpies Falkirk but need to see them illuminated so will do that on way back.
Short drive to Aviemore today then some walking!
    Weather looks good
