    Quick question to ya'all..

I personally have used a lot of forums over the years and as of now I pretty much only use three forums, this one, the Xenforo company forum (for updates and upgrades) and a forum management forum called The Admin Zone.

However, if I am searching for a solution for a problem I usually search other forums from time to time.

    How about you guys?

I have a look at the other channel to see who is banning who and stuff. But as I am banned I can only view from the outside.

A quick google for my username will see me active on quite a few forums, mainly email discussions - probably incredibly boring for most people, but for those of us interested in all things email, its a fascinating subject. I also frequent PCAdvisor, JetPhotos and TripAdvisor. I've noticed there's been a big decline in the use of discussion forum - PCAdvisor is an example, in favour of the likes of Facebook et al.

I just use BF and one or two work related sites like Oil &Gas and LinkedIn which is good for getting found by recruitment agencies and old work colleagues.

I use a Dumaguete Info forum, mostly because I have property there, and is very useful for finding stuff.
Like best restaurants, coldest beers etc. Plus made some friends over there, nice forum, nice members, well most are.:like:
Almost forgot, I also use AVFORUM.COM

Interesting responses.. Although people now spend most of their time on social networking websites, I think we all tend to use forums for specific information within a particular niche.

I'm really not into social media until the visa application. Only used 2 forums for the visa. Very helpful and I'm now finding ways how I can help :D

Social media and forums each have their place in our online lives, I couldn't get by without Facebook and Twitter (Twitter is mainly a way for me to see what news people are talking about) and I love scanning through forums if I'm about to buy a certain thing (like a new camera or laptop) or book a holiday. Far better to get multiple perspectives about a given subject than just one from an article.

I am registered on a few other forums but the only other one I actively use is moneysavingexpert.com.

Sometime I may register on Facebook or Twitter just to view some pages or make a comment but then delete the account.

    lessee...

I have recently taken up Philippines Expats, which does not really overlap with this place, being mainly Phils-resident Yanks and Aussies.

    Yachting and Boating World forums

The Woodenboat Forum. My first forum, back in 1997. Still good.

Facebook I do find very handy. One develops all sorts of odd groups of friends.

Don't really understand Twitter, but have an account.

Have developed a positive aversion to Linkedin, which is full of bullshxxxers.

    I am totally antisocial.

But I recall posting on Flyer Talk, Khmer 440, Thai Visa, a TripAdvisor forum, and Notebook review.

Yeah I refuse to join Linkedin, it is seen to be an essential tool for the aspiring professional but it just leaks private information all over the place.

Recently I have been in the role of recruiter for my company and had to read huge numbers of CV's, not a pleasant task, and as I filtered them, I found myself looking up their public Linkedin profiles to see how it compared to the CV, many had not mentioned Linkedin but you can still find them, often the Linkedin profile is barely a match for the CV and the CV's are seriously variable in quality.

It is also amazing how poorly so many of the people match the CV once you meet them at interview, anyway Linked in often ends up exposing more than the person might have wanted given the particular slant they try and put on their CV for a particular job application.

Facebook I just don't like, it's not really a forum more a personal fan channel come blog.

I've found LinkedIn very good for finding a new job, my last two jobs came from someone contacting me there and the new job I'm pondering about came from a contact there, having said that there is also a lot of intrusive advertising and contact you can do without. I agree with OSS, some people put too much personal information on some of the social media sites.
