My Filipino wife and I chose a different option. We were married in Seychelles.

Some serious points about the formalities of the process in the UK:

    1. Registrars are extremely careful when dealing with marriages where one partner is a British citizen and the other partner is not. This of course is because of several scandals involving fake marriages to get round Immigration rules, in the past. The involvement of the Registrar in Church weddings is to prevent the priest from conniving at a fake marriage - this has happened! In fact in our case the Rector was right and the Ipswich Registrar was quite wrong.

    2. For this reason, the paperwork must be perfect. Proof of address, proof of right to be in the UK, proof of freedom to marry...

    3. Unlike the visa process, which does not involve an interview, marriage does involve separate interviews, with each partner being seen by the Registrar.

    4. The Registrar who interviews you may not be the Registrar who performs the ceremony.

    5. There are Rules about dress and music. Corina abandoned her idea of prancing down the aisle to the strains of " You don't own me" ! ;)

    6. Wedding rings are absurdly expensive here. Get them in Hong Kong if you can.

Is your wedding venue next to the Nutshell pub Andrew, it looks familiar?

Drat! We could have held our wedding breakfast in Britain's smallest pub and cut down the guest list even more!

Actually it's about two hundred yards as the crow flies, and rather more as Bury's lanes meander...

I rented a house on West Street years back just a stones throw from the Greene King Brewery, I thought I recognised the place, I used to enjoy the pleasures of Bury St Edmunds very much :)

Thanks! All on mobile phone - we cut out the wedding photographer, along with making our own cake, etc.

But it was still one of the happiest days of our lives.

They are unexpectedly better than i would have expected from a phone, Im a part time photographer and do a few wedding when i can, and the results from your pics are better than i have seen from many mobile phone wedding pics.

    Thanks! (iPhone 6+!)

The original plan was for oss to do the photos, but he could not make it.

Actually the bride is a really good photographer - several professionals have said so - but she was the subject of most of the pictures!

Yeah a bit difficult to be on both sides of the camera at the same time, the iPhone camera is good quality if the user knows how to use it properly as in your photos it looks like they did. Well done to them in giving you some nice photographic results.

Agreed, but let's not forget that the composition of the shot is far more important than the actual camera used and that's what you are really paying for when you hire a photographer.

I admit that when I married, I hired a photographer and I also took quite a lot of pictures using my camera and lenses, which were superior to hers. I had some good shots, she had some good shots and overall I would say that she had a greater number of useable shots than I did, simply because she takes photos for a living, whereas I'm an amateur photographer.

We were mainly concerned to (a) have a good time and (b) keep the costs down. I got the very distinct impression, as someone who has messed about in boats for the whole of his life, that the words "wedding" or "bridal" have the same effect on prices as the word "yacht" - it doubles or triples the numbers after the £ sign!

Yes. In the UK I get that impression. I dislike that aspect. The point about yachts is well made. I believe that it's often said that a yacht is a 'hole in the water that you throw money into' and that 'the happiest 2 days in a sailors life are when he buys his boat.. and when he sells it'.

A colleague of mine splashed out on a motor yacht for about quarter of a million and I couldn't believe the money he was spending just keeping it going, buying bow thrusters for it, repairs, engine overhauls, fuel costs.. It was frightening. I used to want a yacht once upon a time, but after seeing his experience I was definitely put off!

Yes I can attest to those sentiments about the expense of owning boats. One of the reasons why I shifted away from motor yachts to a sailing yacht. Much more fun and less expensive running costs.
This is my current yacht "Prima Donna"

If you really enjoy tearing up notes under a cold shower...

The ex boat with the ex wife... That boat owned me for thirty years - twice as long as the wife....

Now I am looking for the next one...

I hope for a few more miles out of this wife!

The ex boat, really the Great Love of My Life, has now found herself a much better keeper and has Gone Up In The World - she's joined the Royal Yacht Squadron!

    love that cake @firew0myn .

My wife wanted a very simple--quiet wedding--which suited me just fine.

Registry office. just a few of my friends..and her sister as matron of honour. music was "my girl" by Otis Redding on a CD..

my wife made her own bouquet.

Your wife and her sister look like twins bigmac, lovely photos.

My wife just chirped in and said all the chaps at British Filipino have the same shape, I said to her "you mean we are all fat b******s" ? :)
