It's about 5200 miles from Wellington to Luzon and about 4800 to the Visayas :) 7000 from Manchester to the Visayas and about 6700 Manchester to Luzon.

That's the thing about Great Circles vs Mercator projection :) I too always thought the likes of Australia was quite close to the Phils but it's really not :)

Hi David - actually my offspring stay with their Mum - although both are planning on setting up home with bf etc before too long. But I see them very often and would not like to be too far away from them - although I accept they could move to away for career advancement etc.

    It's good to have choices!

My daughter was taken from Scotland by her mother in I think 2001, they moved to near Derby, it was very hard at the time but it was not something I could ever have a say in, she had her personal agenda and had the right to follow that agenda.

I have never been married, though I wanted to marry but it was not to be, however I am very lucky in that my daughter has grown up to be a fine young woman, a department head in her school aged just 30 and earning very well although being so close to London she is still effectively quite poor.

Circumstance keeps me from being where I now want to be, which would be with my second family, I supported my first family for over twenty years, no marriage separate houses separate lives.

My choices now are very limited but I understand your view Gerry regards where your kids might be in future,.

For me if I support my second family at a comfortable level I will not be able to return to be with them for quite a while, if I make them live on a limited budget then I might get back within a reasonable time.

I just sent £1600 a couple of days ago, and that won't cover full school fees for the year, we will be on Plan B which is 40% down payment and then 10 monthly payments of about 2500 for each child, the net cost for the kids school fees is about 67,000 peso had I been able to pay it in one go I could have saved about £100 but it is not just the fees you have about 11,000 peso for books 4000 for school uniform and lots more for shoes and other required clothing and materials, then you have the daylight robbery called 'school service' that's the driver that gets the kids to your local school it costs about 1800 per head per month, they live less than half a mile from the school, drives me nuts, as a child I walked to school, just over a mile and I walked home for lunch every day, I was doing 4 miles a day, but it is hot over there and they think it is appropriate.

Honest truth, it is not a very good school, Ana thinks it is but really it isn't, I wish I could afford better.

Saying all of that I still love the Philippines :)
