Well, been here for 2 nights and not had any sleep, wife's rooster is going for the chop. Can't do that to her three dogs who seem to bark at anything.

Had quite a flight from Manila to Dumaguete, pilot thought it was okay to fly into a local storm landing into Dumaguete, the runway sticks out of the sea, so landing looked like we was going to ditch into the sea. Aborted landing and managed to get another hight to get over the mountains.

We then flew to the nearest airport, Macton and waited for the storm to pass. second time that's happened to me.

Dumaguette is very prone to weather problems especially at this time of year. Pilots (should) know this and fly straight to Mactan Cebu rather than try to land in impossible conditions. Pleased to know that you arrived safely!

Those bloody cockerels, drives me absolutely nuts too, try using some soft ear plugs Jim, I always use them when I'm stopping in a noisy hotel or the wife is snoring :)

Thing is, if you serve up the cockerel for dinner there is always another to take its place.

When staying at the in-laws... surrounded by chickens, dogs, cats and pigs, last thing I do at night is identify where the nearest roosters are slumbering, then beat the trees with a bamboo pole until they've ****** off elsewhere. The dogs know to keep out of my way. Pigs I take out for walks on leads.

we've agreed to get rid of the rooster and chickens, but breed turkeys instead, had a pair of turkeys but wife bought two males lol, anyway one died so we are getting a few female turkeys for breeding.

Before putting it in the pot, enquire about its fighting status. Could be worth more if sold.

When I used to Skype with Kris at her old place the background dawn chorus was incredible. I've no issue with folk keeping fowl for eggs or the pot - but as most here will know many are kept for fighting - and associated gambling.

With such widespread involvement I'm thinking there is little pressure on the Philippine administration to make illegal such a cruel, barbaric, practice?

Have you ever been to a chicken farm in the UK? I spent a summer working in one and in my opinion table chickens go through a lot worse than a fighting cock.
