Not sure where you are picking up my story from! I expressed recollections of him.
Nor do I make testimony to him or his character nor do I ask you to accept my views and opinions.
The world is full of opinions some you like some you don't, I to have a relative who knew well everyone!

I hope that, for the travelling fans' sake, England do not play Russia. But if they do, it would be best if they make no attempt to score otherwise there could well be a bloodbath.

While I have no interest in this sport, you did raise a point about Moore that I was unware of and which caused me to go look up the history, mentioning it here at all is the expression of opinion and implies a viewpoint.

From the tiny little bit I have read the Columbian police accepted that his hand was too large to fit the hole in the cabinet, and dear old Harold got into some political shenanigans to influence the outcome of the arrest during an election :D

    What scandals ;) :D

Old times, were interesting too :D

Again I really don't know a lot about this, but the potential for something terrible to happen feels to me, in my gut, to be huge.

    No it doesn't
No it fell over because the shop owner said she saw him put it in his left pocket of his blazer it was proven that his blazer had no left pocket. A total mess

Honest people that knew him well say that why the need and no way would he have done that.

As a consequence of being held, albeit cleared, he went on to play the next game against the Brazilians presumably affected by it all and made a good fist of the match notwithstanding. And that famous tackle against Jarzinho. According to Pele himself, Moore was the best man he had ever played against.

I believe he was stitched up.

When the people I know that new him well tell me he was not that way inclined then I believe them. Also Sir Geoff Hurst knew him very well and has nothing but great things to say of him. World Cup final hat trick hero Hurst has been campaigning emphatically and persistently for his knighthood. Why would he do that if he thought Bobby Moore was a tea leaf.?

I am not sure anyone's on here has suggested he was a dis honest person.

    You said:

“I remember Bobby Moore for the world cups of 66& 70 other events in Mexico ( I know he wasn't charged) but the captain should have more about him than put himself in that position.”

He was with Sir Bobby Charlton in the shop. Perhaps Sir Bobby Charlton should have had more about him too?

    • 108 England caps ( 90 as captain ) - only recently surpassed by outfield players Beckham and Rooney
    • The only English World Cup winning captain
    • Best player both Pele and Beckenbauer had played against.
    • His statue looms over the entrance at Wembley

The problem is that knighthoods are not awarded postumously. And as such so far campaigning has been rejected.

Your point being? Or have you read into the above that I am suggesting he was dishonest?I repeat its recollections of Bobby Moore

Yes I am aware that there were a number of others in the shop at the same time!! I have the view that the FA should of seen the potential pitfalls at the time.

Had we been talking about Gordon Banks on this thread amongst many memories of the great keeper part of them are the events in Mexico and if memory serves me right he drank iced tap water which led to a stomach bug and him missing the Germany game.

I agree here but then this was 1966 and the “ship” will have not been run as tightly back then.

He was England captain on 90 occasions. This was for good reason i.e. he led the way and set the example on the pitch. A role model indeed - that ought to speak for itself. He was a clean skilful defender, that walked away from trouble on the pitch and was ahead of his time as a ball playing centre back.

The campaign for his knighthood is not simply founded on a cockney West Ham whim.

I thought the game was excellent all round. Gutted for DeGea. Pleased for Ronaldo.

As Chris Waddle said, he will be going home in a few days as he thought he would not see a better game in the tournament.

Many say that England never managed to replace Bobby Moore. Looking back that is a fair point. Rio Ferdinand came close. John Stones.... he has the potential. England’s potential and success in tournaments ever since has often been derided, but one reason for that could be levelled at teams since 66 have just not been good enough. Playing the ball out from the back or the inability to do so has been a weakness in England sides since 66 and up till now. One thing is for sure, the longer England go without major tournament success, the more impressive and iconic Bobby Moore’s statue at the entrance to Wembley will look.

Time for John Stones to step up to the mark. On predictions I am more optimistic than many but you do need a bit of luck in tournaments, plus the potential for crowd And fan related trouble and spinoff from that, renders prediction difficult. Somebody once said the past is the key to the present. My optimism for this England side is based on the fact that Southgate has pulled together a team that can play from the back and that includes the goalkeeper Pickering ( if he is picked ).

England to get out of the group and through the first round of the knockout stages.

I always feel the competition starts when the South Americans play, on an entertainment view anyway, although Spain and Portugal were not boring!
