Required viewing in our household Mac - finely scripted gritty realism. Good cast too - James Nolan's first major role after the excellent Likely Lads.

I saw Rodney Bewes being interviewed on TV a while back who was of course James Bolam's co star in the Likely Lads, seems to be some bitterness and jealously amongst them stemming from one getting on with his acting career and the other not.

I vaguely remember watching "when the boat comes in" it was a weekly family affair in front of the goggle-box.

I am glad you wrote that, Jim.
After all the hype over many years, I have recently watched the first three Star Wars movies and felt strangely unmoved by the whole experience.
If it wasn't for the fact that I got them for the kids, I would not have been able to get through any of the ones I've seen so far.

I tried to get into the Expanse some time ago, but just found it impenetrable, but I tried and tried again and by jove it turned into a wonderful piece of genuine Science Fiction, it took till the third season for it to reach the point where it actually grabbed me :) well worth watching, real sci-fi.

Star Wars was an effects movie with a simplistic story, Lucas got my money although it took time :) not back in the early days, back then I don't remember seeing any of them in the cinema but I did go to see the reworked versions in the Glasgow Odeon a long time ago can't remember when they came out.

The Marvel MCU universe is a far more accomplished product or story line, while it is all absolute fantasy and has zero elements of any Science Fiction it is entertaining and well thought out.

Harry Potter, I've probably seen them all but it was not engaging.

The pretence behind either is quite different though, Potter is pure fantasy and acknowledges it, Star Wars pretends to be Science Fiction when it is barely fantasy.

I don't think I could plan a night in watching the goggle box as the kids and the missus are always in so I just seem to catch up on the laptop.
I really enjoyed the following: Gomorrah, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Narcos and Narcos Mexico and Peaky Blinders (which I have just started watching as it is on the iPlayer.)

I started watching Peaky Blinders after you mentioned it here but I stopped and should probably try to start again, what I saw was good.

I have to admit that my tastes are very limited and that I am quite restricted when it comes to entertainment, I don't like nasty hurtful comedy, I find violent programmes disturbing, generally, and what's left is not much :)

Peaky Blinders does have violence, Jim, but a fraction of the amount that Gomorrah had which was like Sopranos on steroids!
